Sean Badenhorst Posted June 19, 2009 Share Yeah, got the bad news from Alec Lenferna (local organiser) today. Apparently Nissan hasn't extended its sponsorship so in order to keep costs down, the UCI have eliminated SA and Australia. USA round is only included because the riders are going to Canada for the World Champs... Supposed to be a WORLD Cup, not a European series. I'm livid! BigGuy Posted June 19, 2009 Share It is hardly a 'world' cup, with no events taking place in Africa, Asia or Australia, but of course we will still follow the world's best religiously, perhaps unlike F1.
Thug Posted June 19, 2009 Share That really sucks. The local organisers must be livid !!
Tumbleweed Posted June 19, 2009 Share that is simply not right. it pisses me off! dirt*girl's going to be devastated they should, at the very least, have a dh event in either oz or sa considering how many of the top riders come from those countries.holy roller2009-06-20 07:24:
Willehond Posted June 20, 2009 Share The SA event was a great success, but unfortunately the market is probably a bit small. A race in the US has a much bigger pull for sponsors Anyway, the race was lost to the US which is not in Europe... The logistics must have played a part too. Travelling down to Aus and SA must cost a penny, but it is still real bad news.

Cranky Posted June 20, 2009 Share Awful news. But at least we got the opportunity this year and it was great to be there. Any chance we might still get World Champs down the line?
Tumbleweed Posted June 20, 2009 Share agreed cranky, but i was one of the ones planning my return visit when i left sleepy hollow this year... sure they can bid. the event did some good pr, and as long as all the money is there, and we can provide guarantees to the uci, we may just get events like the wc and the champs again. Christie Posted June 20, 2009 Share I think the Soccer wold cup won't be staged in Africa again, either, for a long long time. I also think its BS that national anthems have to be shortened.
