So you agree.. Let Chris Willemse do al that admin and logistics... Why do you want to take that risk ?.... .

And it means that we do buy local and support our local shops.

This will ensure that other shops start doing the same' date=' and in fact putting preasure on the local distributers to cut their margins and fixed prices[/quote']

I agree with you POPS ... maybe the other LBS should see why CWC are keeping the cyclists happy and put pressure on the local product agents?

I just ordered a whelset(DT Swiss xr4.2d rims' date=' Hope2 Hubs, DT Swiss spokes).

4 LBS prices as qouted me R6900, R6870, R6750, R6700.

CRC plus shipping:............R3582

Beat that!!!!!!!!!
[/quote']

One thing I am noticing regarding CRC vs LBS pricing is for once we in the Cape are getting an awesome deal. Why is it that no Gautengers are raving about how cheap their LBS is?

Must be a Cape thing LOL

We earn so much money up here, we dont need to look for good deals...Tongue

zeepee and regard... next time... asume Klein Chris is pat of your LBS. See what he charge you with "shipping" from bellville tot in die transvaal.

Give it a try, nothing to loose.

And if you guys earn somuch that the prices is not a issue, than I'm sure you also dont import.

but just MAYBE... If you phone your LBS and tell him what you can get the item for from overseas' date=' he will drop his price to match that.

You score, because you buy it local, and if you got a issue can take it back to him.

I'm not saying, buy from Chris W,

I'm saying, give your LBS a change to quote or match your qoute... You never know!!!!

I hear you popeye, but then we cease to be consumers and become traders.

I dont trade or barter!!.

As an example, if I am buying a hamburger, I stop anywhere, as the price differance is minimal, when I am buying a set of wheels for instance, and the cost is say 6K (JUST AN EXAMPLE) I first educate myself on the product, I check what its available for internationally and THEN I will see what its available for locally.

Now if I know I can get the wheels for say R4 K internationally and I walk into a store here and the guy quotes me 6k, I will walk out, I wont bargain with him and I wont ask for discount, I just wont buy.

If he says its R4.4 k I will certainly be prepared to buy it from him and save myself the issue of going elswhere, I wont try and bargain, I expect the dealer to give me a COMPETITIVE price, its HIS job to know whats the price internationally and compete if he wants the business, not just quote me the price on the retail list.

If he is so uninterested or ill informed that he just quotes up and expects me to trade with him, he is an idiot, and wont get my business.

In my business I spend all day quoting, I make sure each and every one is competitive and the best I can do financially, I dont quote up and expect the client to call me up and trade with me for a better price - he must have the confidence to KNOW this is a market related price.

No clients are in the habit of giving me money for nothing, and I in turn am not in the mood to hand it out for nothing either, you get one chance, or I buy elsewhere.

By the way the on line purchase issue is not unique to SA its international, the bricks and mortar shops are having to compete with on line traders all over the world, some adapt and prosper, some dont and die, sad but true.

The USA has done market research on this internet versus bricks and mortar situation and found customers are generally prepared to pay about 10% more for the convenience of buying in a bricks and mortar shop, higher than that, and they go on-line and buy there.

Its the same with brands, in general the market research found customers will pay about 10% more for a "branded" product, higher than that and they start to seek out the generic alternative.

Dont for one minute think its only an SA problem, its universal, the differance is internationally the brick and mortar retailers ARE cutting prices, offering value added incentives, competing and staying in business, here they seem unable, unwilling or just too incompetant to do so.

I agree with Porky .. I am not interested to bargain with pricing ... the first price the LBS quote me is what I regard as their best price and I will at that point accept or walk out!

First of all i must say that these are tough times and i dont wish this on anybody!! But i am curious.......

If in a few months he opens another shop under another name would the current sentiment still be shared or would some questions be asked????

Personal deals still happening' date=' something just does not sound right.  Why are you allowed to trade if you are in liq?[/quote']

Who and what are you talking about?

Guys, I think we are all commenting on opinion and no facts.  I still say, I don't think the balju actually closed the doors, even though I know someone mentioned it here.  If it was the balju, there would be a chain and a lock on the shop's doors, which there isn't.

If that is the case, that the balju didn't close the doors, then, surely it doesn't matter what kind of deals are going on.  Yes, maybe they are on the verge of colapse, but, if you can squeeze I extra bit out of it, before someon comes and lock your doors, then surely there is nothing wrong with it.

I'm not trying to stir, I'm not a friend of Willie or anybody that worked there and I think everybody makes valid points here, but let's give the guy the benefit until we know the facts.  We must remember, his name does have value, even if he has gone belly up, yes they might close his shop and take his house, but he can still get very far with his name, so let's not spoil that.

No matter how we look at it, it is still sad, either way.

Well said!!  We do not stay in flippin CHINA where each and every breadloaf has to be bartered down before a purchase.

I expect the best price from the start - as is seen on the price tag displayed - otherwise, do not dispaly price tags if the prices are negotiable.

and they feel better if they get R5 off.

At Westdene cycles they give -10% on everything over R150. Shimano is -20%. Bike are normally -10 to -15% on ticket price unless they wrote on the tag "no discount". But depending on you relationship with the shop, you can still get some discount.
