Thanks JB and Big H for also knowing that polycarb doesn't break.

To Bruce (not picking on you, you're just the most recent and coherent to give a counter-argument) and others, I wasn't slagging the product because I think it's overpriced or inferior. I just object to silly marketing claims. While it may be true that RP's lens material is stronger than PC, that doesn't mean that PC is brittle or not up to the job, as proven by that Darcs ad 15 years ago.

Basically it's just misleading if you happen not to have studied plastics technology and fall for marketing hype.

I would just like a pair that does not scratch with the first hind of dust/mud. All of them you have to clean it extremely carefully with water and then wipe it just as carefully with the soft pouch provided. I'm riding in the veld and I don't carry the pouch with me. Mud gets flung into my face' date=' i spit on the lens and try to remove mud so that I can clean it, but I only have my nylon cycling shirt and it is also covered in dust. One wipe and the lens is scratched. The lenses always goes before the frames do but they are always very happy to replace you frame at the expos.[/quote']

Mamps...... I use that Spookpis you wipe onto a windscreen that stops water clinging to it..... cannot remember the name of the stuff............ Mud goggas and dust kicked up by Rudy sunglass wearers trying to justify their silly purchase of many many ZAR........ just rolls off the lenses............ like water runs off my back.

Hendrik, you're talkinga about Clear Screen or such? The stuff that beads the drops on your windscreen.

It doesn't work on bicycles, although it does on motorbike visors. The reason is thus: it will still bead the water droplets but since you're not going fast enough to create wind to blow the water off the lenses, they just stay there and eventually drop off from gravity or a bump. Generally it is not a satisfactory solution. I don't know what is - looking over your glasses like us ou toppies do with our reading glasses, is the best I've come up with.

Perhaps tandems go fast enough to create some lens-clearing wind? Tongue

Hey, speak for yourself, some of us old toppies can still ride fast and we don't have to peer over our glasses either. Wink

On the other hand don't ask me to service a shock without my glasses (which I forgot when coming to your workshop by the way). Ouch

SOME tandems may go fast enough yes...... ours does not!!!!!

The spookpis is the stuff Emerson Fittipaldi advertised, mine is still packed away somewhere after our move to Cuvango. It definitely does not disperse mud, goggas or Rudy fens dust but it makes the mud goggas and rudy dust easier to remove. Rudy's wont use this stuff as even 25kg dogs do not harm them...... by the way what happened to Barbara Woodhouse and why does Slowpoke not discipline her mutts?????? I used to use the Phazer on our Boerboele when they were naughty!!!!!!!

By the way I also use the anti fogging stuff on the inside of my cycling glasses. Unlike other old timers i know when I work too hard sweat starts dripping down the INSIDE of my glasses. That is where the "aunty fogging" (yecccch does that not sound perverse!!!!!) works the magic.

so why dont they just make helmets out of the same stuff as these glasses

Would be cool if we could use Rudy lens material for helmets........ they will deflect bullets...... especially for those who throw taxis with waterbottles etc and they will not scratch if you fall!!!!!!!!!.............. and they will also give you optimal UV protection ...... and change colour while you cycle...... Fandy...... quick ..... patent this ............and you may make katrillions of zak!!!!!!!!

BigH, clearly the scratches on your glasses are distorting your vision and making you loopy.

as to my mutts - when i play with them it's playtime, such is life. if you feel good about usinf a faser on a dog that is your choice - i would NEVER do so as i do not believe in cruelty to animals.

as to d'arcs (which you act like they are the best thing on the planet) - i had a pair when i was adventure racing (wasn't going to risk losing expensive glasses) which meant i was forced to use contact lenses, which with my eyes i cannot get vision good enough to see enough to drive or suchlike. as soon as i no longer needed "disposable" specs i gave them away. they did have some scratches and they were already on replacement lenses.

just because you aren't willing to pay a bit more for something and feel that what you have is good enough for you (which you are entitled to - if someone is happy wearing a R10 helmet that's their choice) does NOT mean that you need to disparage more discerning products.

tee heeee ........................ I do not even own a Phazer nor do I own a dog..... but that realy got the juices flowing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not my problem that you cannot look after your sunglasses and got them scratched just to justify buying sunglasses that would have fed a previously disadvantaged family for two months!!!!!!! DISGUSTING!!!!!!.

I have ignored this thread, as I know you stir and see how you can get people riled and p1ssed off.

But as soon as you start throwing accusations about DISGUSTING tendency's, for me to wear a pair of sunglasses, because I can afford to,  you get me involved.  I understand the free speech thing and all, but get off your high horse.  Seeing that you do not ride or use Rudy Projects, please provide proof, that you feed a PDI family.

It is all well to post for a reaction, but you are getting old and senile and are now overstepping the boundries.

Some of your posts are downright rude and useless.

I wear my glasses as I am in a war zone and can use all the protection I can get. I choose to wear these glasses, you made your choice.  Leave it be, rather spend time with your wife and a good red wine, instead of posting useless and sh*t arguments

hendrik, if a person chooses to drive a 20 year old f-up car and goes on and on about how it's just as good as a lexus or subaru that is their problem. there is nothing "disgusting" about choosing (if you can afford to) to drive a newer car with airbags and abs, etc. the same way that a person has the right to choose to drink tassies instead of a better nedergurg or an even better KWV. there is also nothing "disgusting" about drinking the better wine.

i'd recommend that you get rid of "el rapido" as it is digusting that you have chosen to spend your money on an extra tandem when you have a perfectly usable (albeitn iheavier and less suited to road use) other tandem.

eyesight is a pretty important aspect of life. same as skulls. some people are quite willing to risk losing theirs. others not. it is, in fact, admirable, that some people are willing to spend their hard earned cash ensuring htat later on in life they are less likely to be a burden on their medical aid/family/society in general.

Dankie vir die goeie raad. PS the esteemed Minister is aiming to take away your medical aid becuase it is "primitive" that such a small minority has the option...... next it will be your pension and then who knows...... your Rudy's..... at least my d'Arcs are so far down the line that they will be all used up and scratched before he puts his dirty paws on them.
