From what i've seen with Colnagos is that they are fully nickel plated' date=' and only the exposed areas have a layer of chrome over the nickel.

[/quote']

That sounds about right. The actual chrome layer for decorative chrome

plating is generally less than a micron (1/1000 mm) thick. The other

chroming process is known as hard chroming or engineering chroming.

This is often used on things like bearing surfaces. In this case, the

chrome can be up to 1mm thick. I think they use different undercoats

too.

A 0.4kg weight increase on a bike sounds like the right ballpark - copper and nickel are both about 15% more dense than steel.

Cool bike. Just some useless trivia' date=' Cinelli and Columbus are part of the same company.

Some more trivia: Columbus also make aluminium and carbon tubesets.

Tarboy, those cable stops were used when the industry changed from down tube shifters (you can google that) to STI? (Shimano?) and Ergopower? (Campagnolo?) levers.

Some more useless trivia. The Italian carbon company, ATR, that supplies most Italian bike and car companies(including F1) with their raw materials has gone under.

Looks like all tubing will be sourced from China in the near future.

I think Time is the only company that actually weaves their own carbon tubes.

Hence that insane seat tube on the VXR Ulteam. Man I like that bike. 928SL has just bought one. Guess he's going to have to change his hub user name when it arrives...

As far as I know from various articles, LOOK and GIANT is the only 2 manufacturers who weaves their own carbon

Maybe, but iv'e got a magazine article where they tour the Time factory and show how they weave their carbon.

Even though Look is French their frames are made in Africa (Tunisia), except for the 566 which is made in Taiwan.

Wayne, there is a giant steel red Colnago at my LBS. I'm not sure what they're asking but they might let it go cheap, considering it hasn't been sold in a while. Has full Mirage 8spd. Chrome fork.

Want me to take a pic?
