Thanks

Warren, we look forward to seeing you and the bike at the next retro ride at the Cradle. Send EvanB a PM with your mobile number to make sure you get an invite.

Great morning out with lots of time to chat and admire each others bikes after the ride over breakfast.

Sounds like a plan, how many Kms do you do? I might need to get a little more fit

Not 100% sure as I have not measured the distance but its +-30km with a stop halfway for photos and for slower riders to catch up. It is a social event and certainly not a training ride with partners and children encouraged to join in the fun.

Oh rad, that's more than manageable.

Warren, your profile does not say where you live but if you are in Jhbg area I would gladly have a look at the bike and give you an opinion.

From the photos the frame doesn't look to be in a bad way and after a strip down and thorough clean you would be able to decide. Somec's always had fancy paint jobs and it is very hard to replicate the original work. PLUS, you loose value if the frame is repainted so my advise only respray if the paint work is in very bad condition (or it has been resprayed before).

Heyyou has a lovely example and so does Glenzito and Fixer (or at least they did).

Fixer's bike tops the S.O.M.E.C list, with full panto.

Its probably easier to respray a nag, than it is the art work of a S.O.M.E.C

The decal is very hard to find. If anybody has got a contact please share !

Please let me know if you have the following:

Mavic 650 clincher rim 28H in great condition and nice brake surfaces. New is preferred.

Fully built wheel will be considered too.

I think I'm in my third year of searching.

Warren that is a great frame. I agree with HeartCoppi, don't try re-spray. Somec's have some of the coolest paint and decals and I have not seen the older decals like your available in reproduction. A piece of art. Good find.

I still have mine. She is safely packed away.

HeatCoppi probably has the only NOS, unbuilt frame in SA.

AGREE. Always better to leave as original, unless original is too far gone.

You've seen the chrome on the one I've just acquired. Would probably cost me R1200 to have the whole frame rechromed, but then what???? I can't replicate the paintwork, so better just to fix the chrome as best I can and then leave it.

Bottom line is you have an appreciating asset, don't chuck it by painting it.
