Max, I have no idea.

Have taken it up to 193 in a sprint finish before and thought I was going to die afterwards. So probably just under 200.

Would my ave HR in a Hillclimb TT up to the tokai Mast be a appropriate way to get my LT? It was around 89% and took 1:02 minutes Or is that to long a time to test it over?

Bos, as far as I know, the only way to really test your LT would be to do blood tests in a controlled environment.

But to answer the question stated in the heading....in my honest opinion, you cannot sit at max HR at all. You'll reach it and as you do you'll be sick and forced to slow down or stop.

all things being equal, a fit female HR would be 6-10 beats faster than a male counterpart - dont ask me why

inactive/unfit, male would be slightly 1/2 beats higher

with WW being 21, her max is probably 200+

We're just faster because we have to work harder to do the same pace as a maleDead

I think the variances between peoples max is interesting but meaningless. I am no super cyclist nor super fit but I can sit at 198 for several minutes at age 48. People with lower maxes than me are riding away from me at that point so it helps me what?

I cannot agree more. Your max HR is similar to a vehicle's max RPM. Some cars have bigger engines (larger heart ventricle) but lower max RPM. Others can rev high but not much happens (Honda Civic? OK, just an example, forget about that, rather say RunX! No harm meant, I love you all.) Throw in something called fuel efficiency (oxygen uptake), and it is the combination of the biggest engine with highest RPM with best fuel efficiency that normally performs better over a longer distance. Unless you add some NOS (EPO). Then you need to use a dynamometer to measure the bigger power... but it can sieze your engine (stroke, heart attack). Not sure if mag rim size (26' or 29') means anything! It's all nonsense...

Ag just forget all this and ride the bike!

By definition, maximum heart rate is about the point where it packs up, and you die.

Because of this I don't think you can really do a test for maximum heart rate. Rather you'd do some tests to predict (or at least narrow down the range) of what your max heart rate is.

I got near my maximum rate back in 1994, and don't want to go there again. It was post a 60 second physical effort, was maintained for a few seconds, and afterwards I was unable to do too much anything for a few minutes.

Without the luxury of "controlled environment testing" here's a tip. Take an ear bud and go to the biggest bastard climb you can find.  Ride it as hard as you can until blood starts running from your eyes. Take note of your heartrate and dab the blood using the earbud. Take the earbud to the nearest lancet lab and tell them to test it for you.
