Olympics are the best in that price range.

They are a local brand and offer better value than imported brands.

Their MTB  shoes come with toe studs and a screw-gadget for them.

They have stiff soles which make them effective on the bike but not as comfortable off it (the cheap shimano shoes with rubber soles are more flexible).

Buy them @ Flandria, since they are the cheapest AND you receive 10% cash discount on that cheap price!

Ja sorry man - that was a while back. Just meant to say that they usually stock them. But they appear to be very popular, especially since most beginners would in all likelihood get them whilst they might still be unsure of the whole clipless thing - so they go quickly.

My advice, save on petrol and start phoning around...

Good luck!

Try Diadora - gheko's, they are nice to ride with and very comfortable to walk (push Wink) in.

I got mine about 3 years ago for around R800, not to sure what they go for now?

Besides I'm sure the Diadora girls don't promote crappy products! And as per lots of previous comments on the hub, the Diadora girls are the best! Wink

My last pair were Diadora Chilli's.

Best shoe I ever had.Wore out after many years.

Replaced them with Specialized. They are very comfortable and tough at R800.No patch on the Diadoras though.

I have a pair of Diadora Jellepenos; 7 years old, well worn by now, but not falling apart.

Comfortable, but although the uppers have stretched to fit my foot, the sole is too narrow to properly support my foot - gets painfull after 1 to 1.5 hours.

I stick to my previous post on the Olympics and Specialized.  Olympics should be available at Sportsman's Warehouse (Gulp, yes you can buy good stuff there!)Tongue

Tried Sidi, but they were so narrow my cheecks still have that sucked in look and my voice still has not come down.  Oh, hang on, maybe it's those compression trousers that caused that!Wink  Still, Sidi might look cool, but the are damn uncumfortable (like stilettos!)

I had a pair of Sidis that I paid R 550 for at the old Alan vH's. Indestructible and almost as uncomfortable. Now got a pair of Specializeds - well worth the money - no probs on the longer stage races like Sabie.

Stopped by my LBS (Flandria) and they will order a pair of the Olympics for me. However with the long weekend, it will only arrive towards the end of next week. Will have to wait and see if they fit / work for me.

Were is Flandria?? I need to buy some Mtb shoes aswell' date=' it's going to be between the Olympics, Specialized and LG's[/quote']

Directly adjacent to Stelmark centre (Pick & Pay), Stellenbosch

Access to the parking area is from the 4way stop at the intersection of Andringa and Banghoek Rd.

Flandria is in the corner next to Bird Street butchery. You can't miss the glass box full of bicycles in front of their store (that is if the hawkers don't completly obstruct it Wink)

I ordered the Olympic ADVENTURE model - Flandria have stock of the HURRICANE, but apparently the demand for the ADVENTURE is not sufficient to carry stock.

I often do "exploratory" rides investigating possible new routes or routes that could be opened, which means that I end up in places that are not always ridable - good to have a shoe that you can walk in then.

Nice one Homer!  I think those silver knobblie things might be precision balancing weights for back-heavy mtb's.  With those silver knobblies attached to the tips of your shoes you will fly through the air perfectly balanced as opposed to flipping you on your back quicker than a nubile at a Steve Hofmeyr concert!<?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
