MTB shoes

Looking for new MTB shoes.

Nothing fancy, say R550 - R750.

Want something that you can actually walk in and has some grip on rocks.

A "Tekkie" with a stiff sole that can accommodate a cleat will be fine.

Looked at the @ttitudes at Rapid Sport, but they are not comfortable.

Still trying to find a shop (Stellenbosch/Cape Town) with stock of a Shimano or Merrida shoe in my size (they look nice, but too small, too big or out of stock).

I have broad feet and cyclying shoes generally do not come in half sizes Cry

Any suggestions?

Mountain_lion, IMO the best shoe in that price range is the Olympic mtb shoe at around R500/550.  Not really a tekkie type shoe but it lasts forever and compares well with Shimano's twice it's price.  Locally made, but excellent value. Even the local GT team rides with these!

If you have broad feet also look at Specialized shoes.  They have a nice wide toebox which some of the fancy European names don't have.  I guess those nimble Italian racers all have tiny narrow feet! Willie Engelbrecht stocks a nice range to try out.

Thanks Guys.

The Olympics do look nice - Mason in Stellenbosch has been promising/trying to get me a pair since Monday... no luck yet Unhappy

Will see if I can make it to Wille E today to have a look at what he has.

I have been cursing the Italian shoemakers with their small narrow feet for as long as I can remember!! Wacko

Hey Mountain Lion!

I second Willehond on the Olympics. I am heavy on my shoes, and haven't had any problems with mine. They are really comfortable too - and I also have broad feet.

If you are in the Stellenbosch area - I battled at Mason's, but was lucky in that Flandria (near the Pick 'n Pay centre) had just received new stock - some of which were the Olympics... Might be worth a look...

When was that?

Flandria is my LBS, but did not have the Olympic when I was there last week.

I know they tend do be on the expensive side, but I'm sure you should be able to get a pair of Sidi's in that price range?

I know they offer a wide version, not sure if the local distributor stocks them though.

Sidi shoes are the ducks nuts! Thumbs%20Up

Specialized.

Bought them the Wednesday before the Epic.  No problems.....and they are still going, a year later!

And the "going" was not that easy........

Good fit.  Comfortable.  Paid R700.

Olympic.  DR rides with them, and he really messes them up and still going STRONG!

Sportsmans Warehouse used to stock some Olympics...was at the Somerset Mall branch, not sure if they still do.

Otherwise the Specialized shoes seem good.  My eldest son uses them.  Retails for around R800 (and Flandria had some of them a couple of weeks back)

I have the LG Mtb shoes, lasted about two years now but is starting to come lose at the soles, they are lekka comfy and would not mind another set. Think CityCycle at CanalWalk sells them. Marius2007-04-26 05:15:43
