How do you show your commitment?

Finding a new trail with a steep section you chickened out on first time.

Activating the stomach nerves when you think about it (the same ones that make that make you want to pooh on race day mornings) and then going back week after week trying the same section until you make it all the way or just a bit further down......

 

 

I went for a ride on Sunday morning ON THE ROAD and I did almost soil my bib-shorts with a hill that I had to climb up. I did make it to the top' date=' but baled on the rest of the ride as my legs were dead/deceased/late/stuffed.

 

There are some Roadies who do understand this. It is us old, unfit buggers (me) that know what you mean.

It's not the same.

 

I remember one dropoff 7 years agon on the George 2002 XC course that still gives me the hibbiegibbies when I think about it.

Theres a drop- off that I kind of accidentally rode the first time, Its about 3m high and its so dodgey one can hardly walk down there without seeing your gat. Every mtb ride I do in capetown I come down that singletrack (its the only one on the mountainLOL) and everytime Im half way down that trail I start thinking about it.. If I skip it once Its going to become a "thing" so I end up just riding it, and oh man its so sketchy- no one but me rides all have tried and crashed hard! It starts with a vertical drop into a right turn into a drop off.. like a supertube.. 

 

its becomming a thing cause I ride a lot of road these days.. havnt done it for a month or so.. Dead

But that's the thing, I don't even carbo load on the 'right' carbo loading stuff and I still have a morning k*k LOL

By keeping on cycling and training even though I have not had a cycling partner except EM as my Stoker since 2005. I miss my cycling friends...... but I have made some good cyber friends here on the Hub and other forums.

Well my asthma and weight is my main motivation.Cycling keeps it under control - lost 10kg (from 102kg to 92kg) since March and used my asthma preventer pump 10times since March (use to be twice a day).

I also enjoy the solitude and break from having to think while I'm out on the bike. Being a developer and studying part-time my brain seldom rests.

Also the price of petrol is also keeps me going. Used the wifes car for 2 weeks again and was shocked out how much petrol I was using to get to work (only 6km from home).

But I also just love all you Hubbers [and everyone goes Aaaahhhh thats so sweet]

 

Now I have to go for an insulin shot - that was so sweet you gave me diabetessmiley7.gif

Goodday Hubbers. Yes guys and gals reading your comments. Helps with the troubles at work, relaxes the mind. Gets you ready for next Tr session.

I just had to get out. Bad day at work, everything was going haywire.

Got on the bike for a long ride. Hell even the OWLS came to greet me as i passed their roost. What was nice was my ipod decided to tell me its batteries were flat before i even broke a sweat. Next it starts raining, i still got 8km till i get home. One good relaxing ride 4hours +- 95kms.

I had an awesome wind-down this evening too after a heavy day of

writing code. OK, so I'm only good for 14km on my commute home but I

did manage to get some cadence training in - Spanish Farm is a bitch

!!!!

 

But my real commitment to my cycling is all the money I'm throwing towards it - I feel like I'm laundering money with how I have to hide my cash from my wife. Thank goodness she thinks I earn a R1'000 less than what I actually do :)

Yes this month is killing me. First i had to make drastic changes to the bike. I did not like the idea that someone else had been riding  my pride and joy. Then WE's shop gets opened for the last time. I found some good dinner plates to replace my old Big Chain Blade.

You are right - it is not the same thing. I have yet to see a downhill that scares me.smiley2.gif 

 

I am talking about going the other way - soiled bib shorts from the protracted exertion forcing the sphincter to let go in sympathy. It is not letting go out of fear which is a momentary thing (I am not diminishing your experiences in the least).

Mine is simple...if I dont ride..I climb the walls and am shocking company! So to me riding and training is keeping me sane.

 

Sheesh... that's me on an average day, training, not training, whatever... Wait, maybe I have a problem...
