This is not as clear cut an issue as it first appears.

Take for example the Rebel TT series.  Same prize money for men and woman, and big prize money too, several grand.  Three ladies bothered to pitch up (and not a single elite), so the organiser got a few hundred rand in entries, and forked out several thousands in prize money.

Same thing happened at Worlds View last year.  The total entries from the ladies was about 1 tenth of the prize money's handed out.

Why don?t they just split the price money according to the amount of male and female riders?

Riders that completed the long ride!

Year     F         M       %

2007    133    759    17.52

2008    125    699    17.88

According to past two years numbers, the Ladies are lucky for getting R2000 instead of R1788

It does not make sense to me that they only take the prize money from the entries paid by the elite entries.

If  they claim its the 3 best organised race ? that does not wash with me !!!

if i was a woman I would tell them to shove their money right where it hurts AngryAngry

You know why they have not send a women to the moon yet? It's because it does not need cleaning.

R   500.00

R   500.00

R   300.00

R   300.00

R   300.00

R   300.00

R   100.00

R   100.00

R   100.00

R   100.00

R   100.00

R   100.00

More "pro" riders will enter because they have a chance to get on the podium.  Sponsors happy.  Riders happy.  Less prize money handed out in total.  Etc.etc.etc.etc.

Same goes for the ladies.

I think what Hagar meant to say was that the GAP between men and ladies are very big.

I think it revolves around less entries = less competition = more coverage for sponsors of the prize money because of the increase attention men's racing gets compared to ladies.

I think this is the way to go... break down prize money according to entries:

so R50,000 goes to OpenSeeded/Funrider/Muppets in the form of lucky draw prizes,

Then about R2500 fund for elite men and woman which could go toward buying the roving traffic marshalls on their motorbikes a breakfast after the race.

Definitely need to go with the podium thing for the pros - good for sponsors, but no prizemoney.. I mean if you win the Argus you win the argus - who cares if you win R10,000 or R100. also have lucky draw at prizegiving to get more funriders supporting the prizegiving Big%20smile
