I'm always hanging around in the neighborhoods avoiding traffic, the furthest I can go is 17km and then I run out of road, I do the 17km route @ average of 27km/h.

I'm wanting to spread my wings, and attempt the main roads, I've looked on google earth and I can ride a nice 34km route in Richards bay.?

I'm excited, but have this mental picture of me calling my brother on my cell to come pick me up cause I'm exhausted....

I'm going to suck it up and go do the route on Sunday early morning.

I hear a lot people say first distance and then speed, is this correct?

what do you classify as a main road? I would ride on the john ross between merensee and the city - but you wouldnt catch me dead on the rest of it. so how far would it work out from somewhere like the harbour to that airport and back, around the lake?

I did it!!!! smiley4.gifsmiley4.gifsmiley4.gifsmiley4.gif

It wasn't even that bad, and I think I did well, I road 35km @ an average of 27.3Km/h

Ahh, it feels so good! these half an our rides I always did seems sooooo boring now! I'm doing the 35km as my daily route ? ?smiley2.gif

@Stretch:

I consider the dual carriage way from meerensee into the CBD as a main road, but the road has quite a braod shoulder, luckily smiley2.gif

Have you ever cycled from Richards-bay to Empangeni on that road that goes past Enseleni wild reserve?When you exit Rbay past Brackenham area, not the one that goes past Hillside and Mondi

Do you know if it's safe to cycle on that road?

Well done Elvin, to make it even easier try to join riders with similar goals, training or simply riding with someone make it much more pleasurable.

ClapGood one Elvin, just keep it up and relax if you keep up the training all will fall in place like you want it. You got a goal keep to it.Clap

now drop the speed to about 24km/h and do it the 17km loop 3 times. Do that for about for rides. Then do for laps for about 4 rides. Then do the 3 laps again at 27km/h for about 4 rides. Then go back to 4 laps at 27km/h.
