Ok so i took my MTB there for a mayor service, having the lack of skills and energy to do it myself. (on my bucket list to do my own bike services one day)

ANYWAY

told the guys to PHONE me when stuff needs replacement. Got a call, BB in crank needs replacement, the quoted me a price, accepted. Went in the afternoon to pick up bike. Not ready at time mentioned by guy on the phone when they called about the BB. Saw the final price. BB was quoted at DOUBLE the price...mentioned it, reaction was ok lets change it then....FIRST GRIPE: I was peeved because the tried to rip me off

My Alivio left shifter greeted after having my bike 6 months. They tried their best to fix it. But also didnt take the trouble of saying, hey wait, its still under guarantee...lets arrange a new one and sort it out for you NO I had to buy a new one there and then, didnt budge. (Bike now at Solomons, for replacement of shifter)

They also replaced all the gear cables and housings without calling me beforehand

on the positive side, the gears that I could check were super dooper 100 sharp, the wheels must have been trued to the mili-mili-milimeter and the brakes very sharp.

Have mixed feelings about my experience there, dont really know if I will take my bike back there

Hey Groentrui....this (your predicament) would throw me off the edge!!! my riding time is so precious to me (as I'm assuming yours is) TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!! There MUST be a number for the landlord at least??!!

my LBS WestRand Cycles would NEVER do this!

I realize Krugersdorp's not around the corner...however if you want to REALLY looked after, Eben or Shaun'll take care of you!

I second that! Westrand Cycles is the way to go (If you live close enough). Eben gave me an awesome deal on the GF's new bike.... She's gonna love me long time ;)

BigH, Jagwil... not true.... The customer is never WRONG... sometimes miss informed but never wrong...

To say the customer is always right is taking it a bit far.

My philosophy. The customer is not always right, but he is King!

Epic is my LBS. Awesome service. Always willing to help. Tried/tested 4 others over time and have come back every time. Open 7 days a week!

My LBS is a stone's throw from where I am now. I regularly complain about things not done on time, I usually get upset with the mechanic, he never does the stuff that really needs attention and it seems he is just a lazya$$ when it comes to bike services.

The nice thing is WHEN he screws up something he then has no problem taking it to a professional to get it fixed at whatever price - no questions asked.

I am obviously talking about myself, I have all the tools to service my bike except for a fork/shock service. My garage is just downstairs so I can go and fiddle on my bike whenever I want and then load it into the car to get it professionally fixed afterwards :-)

If you can, get the tools, learn to service your own bike. I must admit, doing a complete drivetrain and race-wheel replacement/service, due to a busted knee thanks to CPT, is quite satisfying. I can't wait for Saturday to give my new bike a test.

Epic is far from home, but just around the corner from where I work. I've had my bike there for a service or 2 and for a tubeless conversion. Very decent prices, and I had good service.
