Hi,<?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I have a fairly entry level MTB..( Mongoose ) the crank seems to flex when I stand and pedal.. The chain scraps against the front derailleur... I know on the Dure Ace group set ( Road ) they have a extended bottom bracket which gives some sort of strength to the BB ...  which I think.

Questions

1 Can I upgrade this for something equivalent to D Ace

2 Is there a product like this on the market?

3 What does it cost

Help ...

you must be putting some serious watts out there to flex the BB that much . Entry level bikes usually got very strong BB and Cranks . I think a crank with external bearing may help some , never seen or heard bout this BB extention on MTB .

The gear adjustments has been made ..already. I am getting frustrated with this noise. I am thinking of replacing the damn thing but what would it cost me ?

I have entered the wonderful world of MTB .. The part needs to be something equivalent to Ultegra ... This would be the 1st aerea... the shocks  next

have a look at cwcycles under the Shimano Cranksets. Also think you might want to take ti to Mark's first before you spend money on it.

a New Crankset is not going to fix te probelem except if the old one is broken..Think XT would be fine if you do go that route.

If you want to go SRAM like I did, have a look at these:

Good value for money.

Otherwise go for the XT.

Mine is also doing it when I'm in big front and 3rd smallest to smallest at the back. If the shifting had just one more click up I could eliminate it but it does not. It feels like the crank is flexing. I don't use those gears much so it doesn't bother me much.

Spiderman I am not impressed with the Truvativ cranks . And I am talking from experience , these things just don't last (same goes for raceface) , go for the LX crank . It strong , cheap (er) and not much heavier than the XT . And if you a member of Style Man then you can always paint XT onto the crank !

What would the cost be ? Gents

If you get it from CRC you can get XT for R1185 including BB. See if anyone is ordering and then help with shipping costs.

B4 you go wild and change the crank set, check the large chain ring (presume this is the one you are in when it makes the noise), it may have a slight wobble and coupled with the extra leverage / flex when u stand cause the chain to rub against the derailer.

Might be able to get away with just changing the chain ring instead of the whole crankset.

The amount of wobble might appear as nothing but it takes only a mm or 2 to rub
