Cycling twice' date=' once during the Argus when it was particulary hot i drank too much liquid to comepensate for the heat, i ended up over hydrated and flat on my back at a medic tent for about 2 hours , 2nd was this years Kremertart where i donated blood a few days before the race. [/quote']

Wow , did not ever think over hydrating would be a issue, damb!

Being overhydrated is more serious than underhydrated.

Apparently you drown faster than you die of thirst - could this be a clue?Confused

Clap ha ha , Gasping i like your thinking.

You can train for it by doing pyramids Dead

Explain...

You do all your training in the desert... teaches your body to get used to be dehydrated.

Thanks I'll try it.  Should I then go and ride in the ocean to prep myself for overhydration?

Is "Bonking" the same as "Hitting the Wall"?

At least on bicycle you can freewheel a bit...

I think the difference is that in bonking you suffer due to nutritional factors whereas in hitting the wall you suffer due to a steering/braking problem.

I bonked on Saturday after 4 hours of riding the Cobra route... didn't take much food... anyway half way up I felt dead in the water...

I haven't considered walking and pushing my bike for a very long time...but I did then. It was completely demoralizing to crawl those last 2 kays. Thank goodness I could just freewheel home!!

My major bonk was during the One Tonner im 2009.

At the 135 kay mark on a hot day, I knew I was in trouble because:

1/ My head was dropping and I could not look more than 2 metres ahead.

2/ I was trying to steer straight forward and could onl manage a swerving line like a bee.

3/ The flats felt like a hill.

4/ Talking to my kness willing them to rotate.

Phew!

Long distance running is not my game. Sporting Career? Mine is still like Julius' school career.

Clown? Why thank you for the recognition Sir. Lindt anyone?

You can train for it by doing pyramids Dead

Explain...

Don't do this if you're not fit.  I'm not joking.  Don't eat before you do this, or prepare a bucket.  Don't do them two days in a row -- or even twice in a week.

Indoor trainer (because you'll see stars, and not the oncoming car; your legs will be wobbly; and 4mins requires a very long road.)

1min as hard as you can.

1min rest.

2mins as hard as you can.

2min rest.

3mins as hard as you can.

3mins rest

4mins as hard as you can.

4mins rest

4mins again as hard as you can.

4mins rest

3mins as hard as you can.

3mins rest

2mins as hard as you can.

2mins rest.

1min as hard as you can.

1min rest.

4 mins is 240 seconds.  Not 239 seconds.  1min rest is 60 secs, not 61 secs.

As hard as you can is "puke up a lung"; not "a bit of burn".

If you're not up to it, go 3mins.  You wanna go harder? OK: 5mins.
