What do you think about tyre liners?

Do they really help to prevent punctures?

Or is it just unnecessary weight on your bike?

I'd Say a bit of Both..Theres no doubt they do prevent a certain amount of irritating punctures but they can be puncturers themselves..also it irritates the hell out of you when a thorn goes through them!!

Personally I wouldn't recommend tire liners. I found they make for a very "hard" tire carcass, meaning the tire can't flex and bend nicely around and over rocks. Decreases traction.

In terms of preference, I'd say:

1) Tubeless + Stans

2) Slime + Tubes

3) Liners

They do help quite a bit with puncture protection,i had them in for a while, couldnt tell the difference in handling or feel before and after i put them in.I went tubeless after that.

Best things I ever bought. Never had a puncture in three years and haun't noticed any difference in the ride quality. Much cheaper than tubeless.Eugene2010-01-09 12:17:03

Traction on rocks Azonic??! Are you doing trials riding?LOLMaybe liners aren't the best but I have been using them for a year and the best "bang for your buck". Not one puncture in that time but maybe also a bit of luck!

I have tried them on both MTB and road.

MTB: useful and do provide a lot of protection. I have since gone

tubeless and will state that that is the way to go if you can.

Road: useless. I found the tyre liners eventually cut through through

the tube due to the higher pressures road tyres are inflated to. More

trouble than they are worth.

My worst normal ride in my area incurred 7 punctures and the long walk of shame  after running out of patches for my normal tubes. After upgrading to liners and slime filled tubes, not a single puncture since.

Have since gotten a new bike with tubeless, and this has also yet to puncture.

Tubeless being lighter, I reckon if you can afford it, thats the way to go.  But liners & slime tubes are still way better than nothing.

Definitely not worth it for roadies. I got tons of punctures when I used to use them. Eventually I figured out it was the liners pinching the tube where the two ends of the strip met.
