Would you have done what Kevin E did on Sat?

It was the right thing to do. Even Ulrich waited for LA on the tour after a crash. Well done to Kevin

Yup that was in 2003, he retuned the favour for 2001 when Lance ahead of at the time slowed down.

"The drama was not over.  Lance Armstrong is a very good decender, meaning he car really fly down the mountain on the decent.  Jan Ulrich, who is not a good decender, in his haste to catchup with Armstrong pulled out all the stops.  Ulrich got careless and misread the road.  The German overshot a curve and went into a ravine.  Armstrong saw it happen and as a gentleman, Lance slowed down to see if Ulrich was OK.  Later in a news conference, The American said, ?he did not think it right to take advantage of someone when they had bad luck.?

But lets not get side tracked and keep this thread to Evans great sportmanship during the day.

Well done on the sportsmanship! Clap

The big wheel turns and one day you will be on the receiving end of a similar sporting gesture. Smile

The only other way that it could have played out that close to the line - -

You ignore the incident and race for the line.

You sit up, wait for Burry and then race for the line.

You sit up, wait for Burry and he lets you take second.

Two and three make perfect sense.

humbug! Evans could've taken 2nd there, bet he feels an arse now regardless of what his blog says, how many points did he just throw away considering Burry probably wont be around much for the rest of the year. If I was riding at their level I would've totally ignored Burry, maybe just slowed down a bit to cackle at him and then ridden on to claim 2nd then waited around for Burry to come in and pulled faces at him.

I'm also curious as to what gearing him and Burry were riding with if Knox had an extra 2 to use?

Yes, Kevin Evans, Max Knox and Burry Stander have pure class. Most of the elites i came across in the past do. I was riding the 75km and actually thought to myself at the beginning of the race that i need to get to the end in less than 5 hours to see them crossing the line; that unfortunately did not happen!

The elites started at 07:00 sharp and the 75km B group, which i was in, started at 07:15. When Max Knox flew past me 10km to go with a thank you; i was shell-shocked and just couldn't believe how good these elites are! I attempted to follow him on the technical sections through the river crossings, but there was no way i could keep up the tempo and the skill! He pulled a gap on me so fast, i felt like a 'vrot' old chewed up chapy that baked in the sun for a while and got stuck underneath a shoe!

Then Kevin and Burry flew past me 5 minutes later...You can hear them well in advance from behind stating politely there intensions to pass, which i obliged with instantaneously. I kept on looking over my shoulder to see who is next, fortunately i made it to the finish line before anymore elites past me with a time of just under 5 hours.

I must add, i rode with the Continental mountain kings 2.2 tubeless tires in the muddy conditions and was VERY impressed. Barberton was a great race and it is beautiful there.

it does not really fit Evans profile of the past but anyway good one!

For me in mtb, a slower rider is an obstacle just like rocks, holes etc....

so i would have sprinted away.... Tongue

please!!! fine, the next time an Australian wing stumbles while a yard or two away from scoring the winning try against SA we should just halt the game and help him back up onto his feet and give him a second chance... this is a race people, not a fun run! I'm pretty damn sure Burry didn't think twice when he passed Absalon crawling about in the mud!

If Burry made an error in judgement or technique, then waiting would not be apt.

If it is a 3rd party - unrelated to the contest and not another contender - which created the havoc, then waiting is cool.

That's how I see racing, competition, pressure management and so forth.
