Work finished early today when strikers killed a motorist at the end of our street.

The business is in a cul-de-sac so we spent some time unable to leave the buildings.

The black office staff were especially worried but we sorted them out.

The killing was caught on video and was being shown in the office but I didn't want to see it.  Should be useful for police and employers to identify those involved.

Seems the motorist - a manager in a nearby firm might have bumped a striker or remonstrated or suchlike.  Next thing, game over.

Am not used to this sort of thing, esp. as we see these guys every day and straight after they're back to singing and marching.

How's this cycling related?  I get more time on the IDT today.

Thyolo, I can hear from your post that you're really feeling pretty traumatised. Hang in there, know that I'm thinking of you. Such a scary happening. Stay safe.

Got in the middle of a gunfight between some thieves and the police in Port Harcourt (100m from our guest house)...2 thieves got killed and the police left the bodies on display outside the police station for 3 days....this was last year...NO RESPECT for human life...!!!!!!

Frosty ,not so sure about the isolated case,it has become common practise the last couple of years that people gets murdered during a strike!!

What bugs me is that these guy's can turn from normal working everyday people to killers in at couple of seconds!!

sorry, but you can't call anything behaving like that - human... thats my opinion of them. Have been mugged, friends were held up in an armed robbery. They're animals. No exceptions!

OK, bad example cause I agree with you.......I will give you another, I was on a ship docked in the Bonnie river, a body floated past and the dudes just pushed it back out into the middle of the river...this happened all day and going back to the office that evening I saw it "beached" about 2 km's from the ship....

just looking at the report now. not sure if the dead person was the driver of the bakkie - who was reported to be critical at the time of going to press- but i think that he/she may have been one of the protestors

edited because i'm assuming it's the same incident as appears in the afternoon editions of the star?

Where did this take place Thyolo?

Wadeville

They were striking since Monday and it was all quite jolly, getting a little less happy Tuesday and definitely on the turn when I came to work today. Filling most of the road they waved me through but others were being blocked soon after.

About 30 in the group - so not huge, but they generate a very unstable energy.

Thyolo - whereabouts in Wadeville?? I also work in Wadeville and have passed by two companies with striking people outside. Neither were in a cul-de-sac.

Trying hard not to give the workplace away Frosty but it's between Wadeville Rd and Dekema

Understandable.

If I don't travel down Dekema towards Osborn, then I sometimes travel down Wadeville to the same destination which means I would miss the area you're in. But I have an idea of the two or three cul-de-sacs in the area.
