Which suspension fork?

Flippa

Recommended Posts

I'm currently building up a Raleigh RDS 9.0 to replace my hard tail. I have the frame (thanks to Mtb Kid) which I need to put a fork to. The Raleigh was specced with the Fox F100 RL which is out of my price range (R3500 to R4000).

Any other ideas? I was thinking Rockshox Reba Race or SL, Manitou Black. Good forks, bad forks? A fork I haven't listed?

Please help.

Not Reba Race or Team. They flex (apparently) due to their light weight. What about Manitou R7?

Some shops do recon shocks. Ask Bennie or ewep for the name of the guy in Midrand who does it?

I ride a Maverick, but heavier but they have a reputation for being indestructable.

I have a Reba Race on one of my bikes, light, stiff and sturdy. Very plush and well priced too.

Maverick Forks are very nice too, the SC32 is the same weight as the Reba race at +- 1.6. Quite pricey though as you have to then buy the Maverick hub which costs +- R900.00, the SC32 is about 7k, so, you are looking at about 8.5 to 9k with the wheel rebuild and new spokes

I thought you had a Marzocchi?

Reba Race is an excelent shock. Almost indistructable and strong. the lockout may still give you a bit too much travel of you are heavy. Mine is just acceptable, but I am currently 94Kgs.

The shock is still working perfectly and has never needed a service yet. Even after two Epics and a number of other serious rides including the baviaaans etc.

I have only had to pump it once in it's life as well.

Here's me being blonde (or the result of a terribly busy work day yesterday)

Mampara is right, I have a Marzocchi, and at 5.5 inches, not really comparable for this discussion (but size isn't everything so don't feel intimidated if you settle for less travel!!! Evil%20Smile)
