Vanniri, so what you are sayong is we should say nothing about something that admin asked us to comment on? Uuh kinda defeats the object doesn't? And please find 1 post on this thread where I have been offensive or tried to defend being offensive to people on the hub?

In my opinion, given the tone and context I don't see a problem with the word used.... but that's my opinion.

It's certainly not about being selective, but more rational and realistic. To use this instance as an example: Sure a word like "poephol" can be used quite offensively, but also in casual conversation between friends and while it may offend some, the intention of its use is not nasty. But... should this be allowed?

It's certainly a grey area and I'd like to hear from all the Hubbers on this:

Where should we draw the line with respect to language?

- Do we moderate to the extent of a Disney movie?

- Is it okay for the occasional PG 13 "questionable" word to be used friendly banter?

We are all adults here "well hopefully" and I find nothing wrong with the odd bit of banter, Ive been called many things on the hub, but i take it from who'm it comes. I am quite happy with the way things are running but i do agree a couple of moderators are required to alleviate the burdon of "policing" the hub.

This is a forum positive and negative topics will be discussed people will get over excited and sometimes a soft word from a moderator or admin is all thats required to restore santity and to get everyone to calm down to a panick.

Hi Vanniri

It is not the number of posts that guys are getting hacked off about, rather it is the intention of the post. Even in this thread with no swearing some of the comments are still provoking and the provocation is where the problem comes in. It is this provocasion that has caused the tensions the past few weeks. I myself admit to causing a lot of tension here purposefully, because I am not the kind of person who sits by and lets others try and dominate forums by being rude, verally bullying others and ganging up on people. That is actually the role of Admin and it took them a long time to do something about it, too long. At the end of the day though it has been made very clear to all involved. Either clean up your act or you will be asked to leave. I trust they are serious about this and I welcome this should we all continue.

I think the point of this whole thread is to see what people are willing to tolerate and it is an opportunity for others to speak up and say it like it is. Else there will be little change other than good intentions from Admin.

I have stayed out of this thread, but you hit a nerve.

What is even more profound is that in most of the 'fights' lately, one name keeps popping up.

+1

I think the forum rules are more than adequate, and the occasional reminder from Admin or any of the moderators would be sufficient to keep posters in line. We all get our panty's in a knot sometimes, but for the most part the same people lurk on here, and you get to know which ones are trouble makers, which ones are laid back, which ones have profound insight about the most random topics, which ones are the class clowns, and more. So this brings a very diverse group of people to the Hub, all with a common interest of cycling. This diversity is most certainly going to rub some posters the wrong way, but at the end of the day you need to man up and realize that everyone is entitled to their opinion, if you don't like it, don't take it personally.

If we start imposing rules about what can or what cannot be said, may I suggest throwing in spelling and grammar as well? See how ridiculous that sounds?

We're all adults here, so just take the approach that if you can't say something to someone's face, then don't say it at all.

I did not see JB posting here.

IMHO - why the need to swear at all unless it is used in quite obvious jest? Banter is good fun but personal attacks and 'needless' use of bad language just shows a lack of class - USE IT DON'T USE IT

I reckon that given the inability of some hubbers to keep to the general rules of the HUB the rules should be applied strictly, you swear or personally attack anyone or transgress any other rule you should be banned. No discussions and no silly polls and stuff.

When a forum cannot rely on self regulation and or people behaving according to acceptable social norms then you have brought this on yourselves. Yip some members will pobably again be lost to the HUB but hey are they wanted here by most anyway?

Anyway like I said USE IT DON'T USE IT!

As for that troublemaker Scotty I think it's time he is taken to task ;)

In fact that´s exactly what I did - in my defense I was sitting at the airport waiting for my flight to Rio.

Assuming that one talks about what is close to one´s feelings I think the analysis is relevant. i have made no attempt to analyse the data, that´s the job of admin

not to much on personal attacks, but in support of 'review of forum rules' ..

couldn't people who are trolling, please be blocked from posting, or limited to 10 posts a day -- or something like 'go to jail, and wait for 3 rounds'.

Might have been a good idea to perhaps look at the posts i.e checking the facts before you made the post comment. Its not Admins job to investigate ;)
