To license or not to license that is the question ..

So for the 'average' cyclists who wants to race occasional MTB and road bike races (say 6 a year) is there any advantage to be had I wonder?

I remember someone saying you can only take so many temp licenses, how will they know how many you have taken

Dude its a no brainer (R50 ROAG, R75 Provincial License, R75 CSA) all done on-line, took 2 days and I had it. Versus R35 per day license. I have done the few races where the day license point was not the same as number collection meaning to 2 x q's.

Another point is that I don't think you can pay the day license when entering online, so then you have to take bucks with when you register. Happend to me at Babbas and I had to go all the way back to my car to get the R35.

Well, yeah....if you are the only person you need to worry about.

What about families of 4 or 6 - now it starts looking a little differant cost wise.?

So at 35/temp it would cost me 10 bucks more for 6 races ...... but I am leaning towards the ROAG option :)

BigS.....I think you are misinterpreting the "racing license" part....

With your R35 day license you will not be allowed to race in the Cat groups. Only open field!

That R75 membership fee is enough to make you not pay the R35 per race.

Only if you want to be a racing cat, Cat 1 (teams), Cat 2, Cat 3, THEN you have to fork out the R350.

The provincial license is only for you guys in GP, in WC it looks like this.

Spidy mmmmmmm maybe my head is a but flat but

50+75+75 = 200 for the year as a 'fun racer' no cat thing ...... 6*35 = 210

Or have I got it wrong :(

Hi everyone,

Just a heads up that Gavin Kilpatrick (aka as Spartikus on the hub) has started a cycling club - Cyclelink CC. Cost is also R50.00 - hubby and I are going to be signing up with Gavin.

Am I missing the point completely??? This is starting to confuse me as well now.

If I am a licensed PPA member, does that include my CSA license. I am NOT a cat rider (no chance of the EVER happening), but ride all the "fun" rides. I used to belong to a club (decided NOT to this year as the "click" in the group is ridiculous).

What else would I need to do? Being from Cape Town and all... ???
