Where is my Bicycling magazine?

Tim Brink and colleagues, why have I not gotten my magazine in the post yet? I subscribed to get it before it hits the shelves, but my local CNA already has it and I am still waiting for mine! I have been a loyal subscriber since issue no. 2, but getting it late is happening more and more these days.

colonel, me too!!!  Maybe us Capies get it earlier cause we are closer to the printer?  Free State is a LOOOOOOONG way off andd slightly behind the times....

steynja, get used to it!  Why do you think I stopped subscribing?  The sister keeps on asking me when I'm going to resubscribe, but I would rather pay a bit more for a mag, but get it on time.  Tim, you might not see it in the numbers, but you are loosing subscribers thanks to this.

 

On the subject, PLEASE don't blame the SAPO. Although there are problems there, the problem lies in your distribution company (I know, used to work for a media house and distribution company)

Okay, this is how it works and the publishers knows it, so I do not know why they still advertise "get it before it hits the shelves".

 

Say they print 25 000 copies. They then send 20 000 to the mag distributors and 5 000 get mailed. The distributors take 2 days to get it around the country and the PO takes 7 working days to get to your PO box and even longer if you have a home delivery.

 

In the states and other big reader base countries, they have two runs. The first run is for the subscribers and then the second for the shops.

 

I know this because we publish books and our clients also moan. But we obly print 18 000 with about 2 000 subscribers so we're not gonna stop the press just to get some books out quicker. Oh BTW, we don't advertise that you get it before it's available in the shops.

Mampara, other problem is that the subscriber mags are packaged, sorted, etc etc for postage.  Then SAPO's delay comes in. 

 

On the other hand, the stuff that are distributed to the resellers (CNA) is just sent out using a printers "courier" (distributor) like RNA, etc.

 

So, pay R5 or R10 more, but get your mag EARLY!

couldn't be bothered to subscribe. i pick it and ride up when i see it in the shop, but i'm not that desperate to get my hands on either. i do subscribe to bike mag from the states, though
