Another race that got very good support at the end of the race to everyone is the Seweweekspoort race. A very well organised race and everyone is welcome by there name as the go over the finish line.

Stukkie - well, now you KNOW which events to enter....

there are so many races nowadays that you can pick the "vibey" ones and give the others a skip!

As for not having enough hamburgers at the Atta...I'm sorry to report that rumour has it that Admin (aka Matt) ate them all!!

That explains the fact that MTB'ers will always post on roadies not greeting....they do not get enough attention offroad.

I have been attending mountain bike races with my husband for the past 7 months and all except the "Die Hell" ride only made a fuss of the first few top riders that came in. If you are rider 120 that crosses the finish line you can forget about any welcome from spectators other than your own spouse/girlfriend. Not even the judges acknowledge your arrival. The Attakwas Extreme Mtb Cahllenge was a prime example of that. The judges had their back to the finish line and they had a 5yr old wandering up and down handing medals to riders as they rode in. I was not impressed at all. Every rider that finished that race deserved recognition - it was tough and finishing was noteworthy for each rider. Not only were they not noticed arriving back but the evnt was so poorly catered for that there wasn't food available to buy for those that arrived after 9 hours of riding! These mountain bike races are not just about the top riders - there a hundreds of others that pay the same entry fee and ride the same route and who also deserve a fuss being made when they cross the finish line!!!!!

Go to the local pub-the barmen will be happy to see you!

Actually - if you like cheering then take up running. I did a night race on foot with my running pals

There's something about this in the rules.

Apparently you aren't allowed to use a bike in a foot race.

No, not even a 29er, even though everybody knows that 29ers are slower*.

I came in after 9 hrs in the Atta and got a heros welcome over the line.....it wasn't long after I arrived that I heard mr koen telling the scantly clad chickies that they could go, I am actually not too fond of people making a fuss of me over the line.
