Hallo Astroboy, I think I was in the shop when you lost it with one of the mechanics at FPC Irene. I was so embarrassed with your behavior that I did not even act according to my 1st impulse and confront you about the manner in which you addressed someone. My logic tells me that your first reaction should have been to take the matter to the workshop manager and if that does not yield results, talk to the shop manager. During all my dealings with any of the FPC stores over the past 3 years they have never tried to do me in - to the contrary: their advice has also been professional and worthy to follow. They are human beings and make mistakes, but so do you. So next time when you behave like that again, don't expect any positive service from them ...

Hi Enticement- I'm sorry to disappoint you, but that guy you must have seen was not me.

I'd happily claim it if it was me, but see I always take my 4-year old son with me when I go over there because he loves to look at the bikes and I try and make it a pleasant experience for him too - he loves cycling ever since he was 2 and a half. So apart from always keeping it decent, I try and make it pleasant for my boy's sake.

You're going to have to rack the ol' memory of your again and picture someone else to stick that tail to, and for all the incorrectly aimed comment that follows in your post I guess you'll be big enough to own up.

Then, after that exercise, try read my initial post again. Especially try find the part where you seem to think I insinuate FP's service guys trying to 'do me in'.

C'mon lad, 100 bucks says you won't find those words anywhere.

I don't mind crit, but if you want to rip into a post like that, just make sure you get it straight.

Read between the lines - I guess only you will know the truth! However, unfair going public on a forum like this if it could be resolved otherwise, or are you trying to gain critical mass?

To me bike shops are like car spares shops, a necessary evil, sometimes you get good service and win, sometimes you get bad service and lose...

Luck of the draw on any particular day I think, I agree with Scotty, is there a perfect LBS?

One mans meat is another mans poison...

Why should we keep quite about bad service? I mean this is not the first time that cyclist have received poor service from this LBS and this has been going on for some time? Obviosly don't care untill the news spread..... then they are sorry and try to safe face....

I really have had just about all I can take from the dodgy (service) staff @ FPC Irene. I have been going there for over 3 years now and thought that perhaps my first couple of visits I must've just caught the service guys at a bad time. But it stays the same -each time I'm begrudgingly greeted and helped (very well) but MAN - these guys just make me not want to go there anymore! I recently moved to Irene and so FPC is the closest cycleshop around, but perhaps I was just too spoilt by Bruce Reyneke's friendly staff, I dunno. Anyone out there have any similar (service) experiences? I'd like to hear about it.The sales guys are very helpful and friendly, but sinking down to the basement level where the service dept. is seated is almost like going into another world! Mordor or something, with Gollum the service guy hanging onto his friendliness like something precious. Now I know the easy out is to just not go there, but why penalize FP for his ill tempered staff?

Wont comment about FPC but if you want excellent service then visit OB at Epic Sports in Doringkloof Mall in centurion, which is just down the road. They are extremely helpful and friendly. My son (14) bought his bike from OB and he was told the pro's and cons's of each bike and was not taken advantage which just doesnt happen any more. Hope this helps you and you are right good service and honesty are rare these days.

I just got my bike after a service:

Washed. Sparkling clean.

Lubed.

Cleaned BB and regreased, headset and bearings cleaned and regreased. Wheels cleaned and regreased. Looks like a brand spanking new bike. The mech also noted the rear and front brake pads need replacement...

The cost? FREE.

I love my bike mechanic. He treats my bike as if it is his own...Oh wait, it is his own...

SERVICE YOUR OWN DAMN BIKE! :) TRUST NO ONE! ;)

There is your problem. Unless you ride a 1994 bike, you cannot regrease the BB, headset or wheel bearings (unless the wheel bearings are Shimano).

So what exactly did they do? Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with getting your bike cleaned, but being told that those things were regreased stumps me. Is it for real?

he actually says he services his own bike, so that makes it even more interesting

+1 Had similar service @ FPC ...3 months to replace a helmet...4 weekly visits to remind them...blamed rep...phoned rep..first word he heard about the claim?

Epic for me. Never had any issues. Great, friendly, helpful staff.

Bought my first bike from FPC in 2001 and still shopping there . Have always found it very usefull to complain about something while at the shop . But WTF this is so much easier .

I went to Barn 52 for lunch last Sunday and was shocked to see the shop door to FPC was open and nobody inside. The wind had blown the door open! I alerted the manager at Barn 52 and he then phoned the FPC manager who then came to lock up the shop. Could have been a expensive lesson if the wrong people saw the opportunity.
