F@ckit I paid R 350 for a bottle of Stans the other day at my LBS

Your budget will dictate which wheels you buy. Buy the best you can afford.

Tyres: get maxxis crossmarks, monorails or a combination of the two in UST from chris willemse cycles for R350 each. They are great in most conditions, except for mud, and they last long. Tyres that are great in mud suck in most other conditions.

Cwc has a 950ml bottle of stans on special for R180.

For those of you that want a well priced alternative try the BAT Conversion Kit.

It's a rim strip, valve and sealant combo that works a charm. I did my American Classic wheels and it took me about 5 mins to do both. That might not sound amazing but I have the ability to turn any conversion into a 4hour drag out session that results in more sealant on me than in the wheel. With the BAT stuff I didn't waste a single drop - I **** you not!

The rimstrip is nice and wide and climbs up the side of the rim a bit to create a nice transition and seal. The valve has an extra large patch on it (I had to cut mine down to size a bit) - if you clean the patch it sticks to the rim strip nicely and creates and awesome seal. The sealant is in but I haven't tested it yet (no punctures so far!). I've only heard good things though and like to support the local guys!

Morningside have them...about R300 for both wheels (2 rims strips, 2 valves, 500ml sealant and a free BAT water bottle).

Disclaimer: I don't work for BAT yadda yadda blah blah.

The ultimate solution would be to upgrade just your rims to Stans ZTR Olympic or Alpine and then put your chioce of rubber on them with the conversion kit. I've put non UST Rocket Rons with Stans sealant on my hoops with no problems. Stans rims just hook up so well! Otherwise buy the conversion kit, some sealant and whatever tyre you choose. Its easy!! Now go get some coffee!

I was going to buy tyres etc off chain reaction; as they are cheaper (as far as I know).

Any thoughts on getting both front and back mountain king? As chain reaction don't have race king!

Coffee time. I wish. No coffee machine at work *sob

BUT Fego is across the road...hmmmmm...

Mountain king? Blurgh urgh argh cough splutter. They're awful - no feedback - knobblies too proud - very little grip - terrible rolling resistance...

Race kings front and back. Race kings are as awesome as mountain kings are ***.

Mountain kings are so bad that (if you ride a 29er) I'll sell you a pair that I've done 8km on for R200 each. I put them on for Sani2c, rode 4km, realised how bad they were, turned round, rode 4km home and put Race Kings back on.

So bad that you would sell them instead of giving them away :o

Give them away for free to you right ;)

It's less than I paid for them and less than you'll pay for them so win-win no?

You are right though - perhaps a ritual burning is a better option.

I gotta set of XT tubeless ready wheels looking for a new loving home :D

Eldron, you give her one tyre, I give her one wheel and she can wheelie her way around the course at the next MTB race... hehehehe
