Thug Posted November 1, 2007 Author Posted November 1, 2007 Here's a possible solution to the "weak" mounting bracket (and here comes my winning pair of Shimano shoes) on the Topeak or for the matter any mudguard. Mount a spare star nut to the underside of the steerer tube and use that as a mounting point (albeit semi-permanently). I'll take the road shoes thank you very much
Ox_Wagon Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 Where can you buy a Crud catcher? Holy Roller
Dibles Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 mandibles' date=' i think they look good on some bikes. but generally i agree, theu can look quite uncool. i have attached one like this - not the exact one, myine cost R35 - to my singlespeed. they're more subtle and hidden away under the down tube [/quote'] I agree HR. Thug has a similar one on his bike. It is acceptable by my standards however even a carrier brace looks more cool on my baby than mudguards. I don't like plastic on my bike.
Thug Posted November 1, 2007 Author Posted November 1, 2007 This Hubber says that The Thug is stirring. The discussion wasn't about coolness. My opinion is that no mudguards are cool. err.......... hello Mandibles The issue (or should that be THE issue) was not whether it looks cool on your bike or not !
AndreZA Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 I don't like plastic on my bike. Remember never to get a boon job. Like Barney Simon use to say, "plastic people melt"
_Daemon_ Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 Have had a rather animated discussion over the past couple of days with a couple of Hubbers as to which is the "coolest" front mudguard. Here are the contenders: In terms of price.... Topeak - R 140THE - R 260 So what say the Hubbers ? This Hubber says that The Thug is stirring. The discussion wasn't about coolness. My opinion is that no mudguards are cool. Topeak cost me R95 and THE was quoted as costing R280. Topeak is the best value-for-money seeing as the mudguard will only be allowed on my mtb when it is absolutely necessary. Why want something that breaks when you need it???

Marius Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 I had a Mudgaurd once, after it fell off I just left it in the road, the thing kept on rattling loose. Do what one of the Warthogs do, use a water bottle, cut it a bit and stick it under your seat, bam, problem solved, going to cost you R4.99

dirtrider Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 I am sure the coca-cola mudguard looks very cool on Debbies bike but not for me thank you .
Wannabe Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 HR, also got one of those now permanently on my bike(it is after all, only a Schwinn Mesa). It works quite well, also protects your downtube from rocks thrown up by the front wheel. Bought mine at Game, about R30.00
iluvatar Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 daemon told me to vote for the THE. i say: just avoid the mud!
Danger Dassie Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 Mount a spare star nut to the underside of the steerer tube and use that as a mounting point Exactly what I did when I got my topeak. An easy solution to over paying for the THE, R280 - R300 for a piece of injection moulded plastic, come of it. What do those BBB ones go for I wonder?
