How would you react, or what would be the apropriate manner in which to act when somebody driving a 4x4 or any other vehicle for that matter, comes up behind you when your cruising at 40+km/ph on your drops while training and the guy hoots at you and gestures that you must get off the road??

Don't want to be rude, but that Waterkloof piece of road is suicidal,I would touch it with a roadbike, just simply to dangerous...........(remember you only get killed once, please don't be part od that).

2 years ago, before I started cycling, I was probably also a hooter. These idiots that cut in front of me and do not stop at traffic lights with their bicycles were a source of frustration. Now 2 years later I am that irritating cyclist!

well, if you are in cruising in the middle of the road, and said 4x4 cant safely over take, then your at fault!

I was on the side of the road with more than enough space for the guy in his Navara to pass...

I'm origanilly from Nelspruit so I don't know other roads beside Botha avenue and the ones Velo club rides are on... So I have to take my chances... (the ones Velo use are +- 17km from my house and my training time is limited) :(

well its just because he hasn't got a real 4x4... LOL

If he had he would have been driving off road and it wouldn't have been an issue.

But serriously, I was riding along that road a few months ago (not as fast) and a BMW almost RAMED me, then swerved round me with mm to spare, no idea why there was plenty of room to pass as had been demonstrated by several trucks. I think some people should just be pitied because they are a couple of beers short of a six pack. We won't change them, and the worst thing we can do is get agressive (although this is what I find myself more often than not doing) especially here in africa where it seems to me people are less bothered about the potential consequence of their actions (i.e. the death of a cyclist)

Sorry as a 4x4 (Landy) driver that one of the clan could do that to you! even if he is probably one of the drivers who object when I cruise in my 4x4 at 100-110 on the high way and R roads.

It is reasonable to get upset, but cyclists can be their own worst enemies. This week at 7.15am on a busy residential road three guys riding adjacent blocked the road and eventually I counted 7 cars backed by for the 1.5km I rode behind them. It was not possible to overtake due to on comming traffic, the guys were not in fast mode and ambled along at <30km/h while chatting. Even as a cyclist I was ready to ride them off the road, and we wonder why non-cyclists hoot and swear at us.

Aggression does not always happen only in the city, I have had a tjop drive on my side of the dirt road (a very quiet back road in Magalies area) and not move back to his side, I had to go 'off-off road'! to avoid him.

Sadly for him, my town is small and sooner or later you bump into everyone at the local Spar, the two pubs or the take aways in town!

I too drive a 4x4 (A Nissan Sani as luck would have it!) but as long as there is room to go past I have no problem.

Incidently, I read somewhere that Navaras are the most 'pimped' 4x4's in RSA!

Dunno... I went off at morons on SUV's in a thread here the other day, and some complained at me. A few hubbers with their brain cell engaged saw what I was saying for what it is.

I'd say in your situation, try get the make/coulor/reg and make friends with some of the TB guys. Report the moron in the TB good bad and fugly thread on the TB forum and trust that the wheel does indeed turn.

Put yourself in the 4x4 driver’s shoes. He went and spent all that money on a flashy 4 times 4, yet his wife still isn't satisfied with his puny manhood. So inevitably he takes it out on "soft targets" because he is only able to feel like a real man when there is two tons of steel between him and some skinny cyclist on his bike.
