Thanks Guys.

I know there is a step up on the Natal front to fine for "illegal cycle racks". There seems to be a run of cyclist getting fined for this in Durban at present. Thanks for the info, thoughts and ideas.

What constitutes an illegal cycle rack though? Surely they have to identify the law that you are breaking in order to fine you? If they are fining for number plates and lights then that I understand.

Think it is great that they fine the okes that obscure their number plates with bike racks. Its the law abide by it. Its not rocket science.

Thule bike rack sorts out all the hassles, now I can make sure I get that camera fine!!! Lol!!! No Im not a Thule rep he he!!!

I'm so glad I went the Thule roof rack route and thus don't have to worry about obscuring plates or brake lights. Yes, it's quite expensive for 3 bikes but what does an approved towbar plus Thule towbar rack cost?

I weighed up the advantages verses the disadvantages and there was it was a no brainer.

I agree! If we expect other road users to abide by the law, why should we get away with illegal bike racks?

I have a Thule Euroway - Was pulled over at roadblock in Natal during December and Traffic cop actually thanked me for using a legal bike rack with lights and number plate

except when you get to a race and find the parking lot has a height restriction or you plain forget about the bikes because the kids are fighting and you drive into the garage ! :o

Not a Thule rep but mine has paid for itself over the years. Best rack IMO.

Would work a lot better if the plates on your car actually match the one on the rack...

(geez that pic of the white fortuner with the luggage stacked on the Thule disappeared quickly!)

Also thought of using my Thule rack as a luggage rack. Looks like a heavy load there! Did you exceed the weight limit of your rack?

Probably, Load limit is 60kg. Have used it like this or a combo of bike and luggage often.
