Cradle / Cyclelab Route - Thumb tacks

This is not good for the Berge & Dale Race. It is one of the reasons I am not doing the race this year. It is a tough route and to sit with a puncture/s is mentally not good for you.Good luck to the hubbers thats racing on Saturday. Enjoy. I trust the weather will be friendly.

The kind that will spend hours driving around doing it because he cannot wait a few minutes driving (and being held up) behind dumbass cyclists who ride two and three abreast and hold up the traffic on a Saturday and Sunday morning. The kind of cyclist shwo think they own the road.

And then get into trouble with dumbass motorists who think they own the road.

Yes, this has been going on for ages. Why we can't resolve this is anyones guess. Perhaps there are too many with the incorrect attitude.

Odd isn't it? Waiting a minute or two to pass a group of (dumbass) cyclists is too long but they'll happily spend hours driving round putting tacks down..

Bizarre.

100% spot-on.

Does anyone know any of the race organisers for the Berge en Dale Race, maybe worthwhile to ask them if its possible for someone to do a sweep of the part of the course that goes through the cradle on friday eve. My wife and I are racing on a tandem, not to be funny, but punctures and tandems don't end up pretty. If we catch the guy doing this I will stop at nothing to see them punished by the fullest extent of the law. Naming and shaming in the media might also be on the cards.

Whoever this muppet is he gets busy during 94.7 and Argus time. If we all go to the cops and lay charges they will get gatvol and do something and hopefully get him...being very optimistic.

have any of you ever thought a little bit further than the obvious the circle at the rhino park is the hijack hot spot of the cradle for cyclists, so maybe before you accuse the residents think what a easy target you would be sitting there at 4.30 in the morning with a flat tyre . interesting thought isnt it ,and who would you ask for help , probably a resident that you keep insulting

Regular users of the Cradle route, what say you? Certainly puts an interesting spin on this.

I actually had the same thought when I read this thread. They did it with logs across the highway in KZN a few years ago so they can rob the motorists

So the Thumb tackers have a Hijack Licence only during 94.7 and Argus training???

Surely it would be an ongoing thing all year round? I ride the route every weekend basically not only when the 94.7 and Argus are on - the only time I experience thumb tacks is when the volume of riders increase and the thumb tackers get irritated.

Im a lone rider and I must say that I don't agree with the method used by this person/s but as an EX cycle lab rider I do understand to a degree - CycleLab, MTN Club and any other " Group rides" need to pull their fingers out their ass and stop being so inconsiderate... Perhaps us cyclists need to create a "policing" system to make sure that when cyclist do ride like morons in the cradle- they get reprimanded some how.. How to do this will need some brainstorming and thought....

What kind of sad & sick person (or persons) goes doing this? I can only think that they have serious personal/psychological problems that drive them to do this to cyclists, who after all are just out there enjoying the ride and are otherwise healthy, peace loving and tax paying citizens.

Let me speculate further: that area is known to be the abode of the remnants of the Far Right and white supremacists: not known for their compassion for humankind or otherwise open-mindedness. So they get miffed having to wait every now and again behind a bunch of cyclists, (so big deal!!!) and they hit out by throwing tacks on the road, because cyclists are such an easy target for their deep anger with society and change, and that they are so marginalised. They should get some help, then maybe the last of their days might be happier ones, instead of seeking release by such obnoxious, spiteful and it must be said, shameful actions.
