Contador - CAS ruling. (All things Contador/doping - merged)

Another good question in this soap-opera-like drama. I remember reading an article a while back saying that even if Contador is banned Saxo Bank may still use his UCI points to "qualify" for races. However, whether the ASO will just not invite them out of principle is another story...

Havent they already been invited to the TDF, I thought I saw their name on the invited teams.?

Maybe they will try get Alberto excluded, although I think thats just been petty, he can race, he is cleared, lets just get on with it and in 6 weeks time most people would have forgotton all about it. The constant media light back and forth, back and forth is what makes for bad publicity, not the actual finding.

When this news came out , Andy Shlecks chain dropped. ;)

Woohoo, let all the corny jokes begin.

Back to topic, Graham Joffe actually gave his own little snide remark regarding the issue this morning, he said that "a dangerous president has been set"

So let the doping begin, it's now an open field for the riders, doctors and pharmaceutical companies.

Weight loss this and weight loss that, ag shame poor Contador, he took a diet drug, so Charl Maththeus drinking cough medicine has to be tainted for life whilst the darling of cycling can roam free like the chickens he eats.

I am with Joffers on this one.

I am still not getting it, a few here are claiming he has been cleared......but he had a banned substance in his A and B test (confirmed by WADA).

So, if the spanish clear him, does that negate the fact that he tested positive. What is the point of having WADA and UCI if the locals can override them.

They can clear him all they like, its not gonna fly with WADA or the UCI

the whole thing is such a farce, after this I actually cant believe that they will continue to investigate Armstorng, as if that matters anymore.

Pathetic. looks like all dopers should go naturalize in Spain.

Rude, the investigation re. Armstrong is not done by wada or the uci, but the us government. They don't care if he doped, but they want to know if he used government money (in form of US Postal sponsorship) to buy the dope. He could end up in jail.

Where is the comment from UCI or WADA? They will study the ruling.

Will there be an objection, or is this the last word on the matter? After they've studied the ruling.

Am I being impatient? Yes.

@ Christie - are they not investigating the owners of tailwind Sports (US Postal Cycling Team) more than Armstrong the Athlete? By default Armstrong as a Co-Owner?

@SPLAT - Knob McQuaid has opened his mouth in protest...

Ah yes, just saw this now:

"I can't give a personal opinion until the whole affair is finished and it's not finished yet," McQuaid told media.

"We got 35 pages from the Spanish Federation yesterday, which has to be translated and studied, and then we'll discuss it with WADA. We'll wait for the full documentation from the Spanish Federation and then we've got 30 days to decide whether we appeal or not. It's a UCI decision."

What a joke! Contador cleared of charges. Let's hope the uci has the balls to take him down. Cycling has such little credibility left. Very sad.

yip, that sounds about right

Ya, the only reason to watch the tours and cycling in general would be for the scenery. As for the profesional side of it, pathetic. And its even worse when amateurs not even racing for price money dope!

Thats how I have it. The media is focussing on Armstrong, but I think Bruneel and others are exposed to an equal extent. Not fair that he is being singled out imo, I suppose the biggest tree catches the most wind. Also, Bruneel will probably wait till the case is done before he visits the US again. I would guess that because it is a federal investigation into abuse of government money, there is absolutely no chance that any of his results will be changed.

I think this investigation will probably result in the closest thing to the truth one would get in pro cycling. The feds won't be swayed by damage to the image of cycling etc, and they will squeeze ex Postal riders brutally hard - threaten Hincapie, Leipheimer, Hamilton etc. with seizure of their US assets, bank accounts etc. and then promise them immunity in exchange for testimony against the king pins. They will already have testimonies given by Landis, the Andreus etc to squeeze with - I think the information will be handled very differently than in the past, when things were driven by yhe UCI/wada.
