Gash Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 Hi Guy's Please be very careful! The is a warning for those that train or ride Breedts Nek from the Hekport side. I have two incidents, one last Saturday morning and one this Saturday morning at about 09h00 on the way back to the garage at hekpoort. There is a driver along this dirt road that is going to kill one of us, as he does not slow down past cyclists. There are places along this dirt road that only allow for one vehicle and this 'person' narrowly missed my wife, freinds and I on both occaisions. We were riding single file on both occaisions with no room to move further off the track. He actually tries to get as close as possible and so close that the last time I put up my hand to protect myself and my hand made solid contact with his mirror. This made the Afikaans 'farmer' driver stop and tell us that he has full right to the road and is going to ensure that cyclists stop using this district road. After the incident this Saturday two cyclists caught up with us and relayed the same experience. This is three incidents that I know of in two weeks and this person is going to end up killing someone on that road. That would be like adding oil to a fire.Rather use the information obtained, and lay charges of reckless endangerment, or Reckless and/or Negligent driving against the driver of the vehicle. He already seems to resent the fact that he has to share the road with cyclists. Enflaming his feelings by damaging his vehicle will only aggrivate the situation.

It's a frikking mountain(ish) pass on a district road, that everyone from cyclists, drivers and motorbikers use.I do hope it's been reported? More of an issue are the geniuses who take their normal little saloon cars up there, or attempt to, like the one series beemer a few weeks back.

Most people here are laid back and as long as you are not being stupid in the road (ie all over the place and ignoring other road users) there should not be a problem.

garethochse Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 Have the people who witnessed the incident reported it or laid a charge at a police station? That's the only real way to get this sorted. Myself and others experienced a similar aggression from a local farmer (white hilux double-cab) a few years back on the sand road that goes around the Buffelspoort dam. If the same guy then he's gained about 30kgs... @Gash - have any charges been laid?

I was on my way back already when you lot passed me. I was riding there solo yesterday, fortunately I was back before this dude was on the road. I would seriously recommend that you report him to the Hekpoort Police before he runs one of us over
