I thought I saw you, in a biggish group... I was on my way back already when you lot passed me.

I was riding there solo yesterday, fortunately I was back before this dude was on the road. I would seriously recommend that you report him to the Hekpoort Police before he runs one of us over

Hi Guys

I have not laid charges as yet. Not sure of the effectiveness of SAPS in these situations.

I just want the guy to understand that we both have right to the road and if he hurts or kills someone he will also ruin his own life.

I know he is afrikaans because when he hit me with his mirror he stopped, reveresed and turned around and abused myself and fellow riders (myself, my mate, both our wifes and my mates son). He said that there was enough space to get past and that I hit his mirror on purpose, however if I can touch his car its too close, he did not slow down and veered closer towards us. he aslo said that they want to stop all cyclists using there road and that Joburgers should stay in Joburg. I would have let it go if this was the first time however having experienced the same thing the week previous and the experience of the riders behind us is too much of a coincidence.

But if you do report it and there is another incident at least you have more evidence to give to a lawyer etc.

Gash, whether the SAPS will be effective or not is not the primary reason to report it - it establishes a pattern of behaviour if he causes further trouble in future (& it sounds like he will). By reporting it you establish a baseline complaint & it will be taken into account for any future incidents. Rather be proactive - if this guy feels like he can do what he wants & there seems to be no reaction from the cyclists concerned he will in all likelyhood feel he can act with impunity and escalate things.

The fact that there was physical contact made between you and the vehicle, that there was a threatening verbal altercation and that you have a group of witnesses present makes for a very strong case - much more so that near-miss "buzzing" complaints.

I urge you to open a case - for the benefit of all cyclists who use that road.
