I could fill this site with the inconsiderate way our motorists drive , but do I do it, no it's not worth my time. At times even I break the traffic law e.g. Speeding etc..

None of us are perfect , so OP , chill , relax and enjoy the view...I cover about 70 000 km's driving a year so I've seen some crazy drivers ...I just chill man,,,no use blowing a gasket...my 2c

But you are missing the point!... Who cares how bad car drivers are that is not what this thread is about, what I am saying is that cyclists need to take the moral high ground and behave correctly...Otherwise we loose the rights to complain about other road users...

this whole laissez faire business doesnt work either. I-cat poses the right question, and yes, up until proper enforcement is ever achieved (as if), then it's up everyone's better judgement when it comes to due diligence and any sort of road rule. but it doesnt hurt to have these discussions in a civil manner to reaffirm what constitutes best practices, and the law. but letting sleeping dogs lie..nee. that's penny wise and pound foolish.

I have cars come past me within centimeters, when one of them kills a cyclist he probably won't even say "that was silly of me", he will probably say "cyclists shouldn't be on the road anyway".

and i supect when these riders get in their cars they're equally arrogant.

hoe do we fix it?

Fix it? Dunno... I regularly love the Macsteel Carnival City Classic, but I'm certain what I see happens at every race in the country. I ride to the start of this race, and today, ended up being clipped by the rear tyre of some wanker's bike strapped to the back of his car as he raced to the start, only to pass him in traffic a wee bit later on. Not to mention the numerous taxis that changed lanes to over take me, when car after car with bikes on or in, going to the start nearly killed me. Yes, you, arsehole in the white citi golf. Hope your day sucked. hope you had three punctures, and when you got home, your girlfriend had left you for a portuguese lesbian.

So, yeah, stupid is as stupid does. Bike, car, shopping trolley, doesn't matter.

Why are you posting this here? If having to overtake a few cyclists tweaks the carrot up your ass then phone Club 100 and lodge a complaint. Obviously there's no ride marshall keeping these plonkers in check.

BTW, in the time it took to create this thread I cycled 40 kilometres.

Heres a picture to stress/prove my point, there are 3 groups and none of them are in the cycle lane.

Come on, really!!! Is it so difficult just to overtake cyclists the same way you would a slower car, tractor...etc?

IMO - I think many of you motorists are frustrated with your lifes, wifes, work , kids , taxis, etc. And then when you can't pick on someone your size, you have to take it out on cyclists while in your car!

The thing that comes to mind mostly here is this:

These dumbass cyclists are being completely inconsiderate and taking up the entire left hand ane for no good reason. But then the chops get home, shower, change and then become inconsiderate motorists. For surely an idjit reamins an idjit no matter what vehicle it is in control of.

The other thing is that there is a general lack of respect for the rule of law these days. By most people. And we try and justify poor behaviour by saying "well everyone else does something wrong so what's the big deal if I ride 3, 4 or 5 abreast with my cycling buddies" Or"Why should I stop at stop streets / traffic lights because taxi drivers do sh!tloads of stuff wrong."

It's all about attitude and self respect. Maybe we all need to have a bit of an attitude adjustment. Motorists and cyclists alike. None of us own the road and we both have a right to use it unless otherwise specified by road sign or by law.

As such, we all have a responsibility to be considerate road users. On both sides of the fence.

So let's all grow up, stop being such dumbasses and be a little more considerate of each other. That means stop bitching (motorist) and ride your frikking bikes (cyclists) in single file, or at least not occupying the whole damn road.

FFS, is this so difficult to understand.

Oh and please motorist, let's not get into threats of running us over. It does tend to get us a little worked up and virtualy guarantees the wrong sort of knee jerk reaction.

Daloco, if you look at the second picture, you will see that close to the point of overtaking, there is a barrier line approaching. IIRC, it is illegal to begin an overtaking manouvre when the arrows show that a barrier line is imminent. So your point has no value.

Just my opinion. The whole 5 Zim dollars worth.

I like Steven Segal's take on arrogant people: #$@& them up ugly!

I've never really understood the rationale of critical mass - raising the awareness of cyclists by pissing everyone off just doesn't make sense to me.

It's civil disobedience. However, they do themselves no favours by often flouting the laws to demand their rights…

We demand order by creating chaos! Sounds fair

That's like fornicating to highlight abstinance.

Posting pics on a cycling website may appease your emotional side but to really have some impact email the guys at www.club100.co.za

That way you're happy and there is a chance some real change will happpen.

I'm all for "exposing" these jerks that give us a bad name - there really is no need for riders to hog the whole lane. 2 abreast is illegal but acceptable given the right road (break down lane/extremely wide road etc) but to ride willy nilly spread out all over the road is just stupid and selfish.
