  1. Eat lots of carrots!
  2. Don't overestimate your own importance. Read the thread topic.
  3. Oh, and another thing. Bashing somebody else's stuff is the absolute worst and most negative kind of snobbery. Chances are whatever you ride, there is somebody out there who has a posher bike. Chances are also good that whatever you ride, there is somebody out there who can whip your butt and do it on a bike that cost half what your bike cost, or even less. Whatever it's about, it really is not about the bike.
  4. Absolutely a great bike. Remember, I bought when the brand was being re-launched in ZA. I was not buying into a brand; from a brand PoV I was taking a risk because at the time Raleigh were exclusively bikes you bought at Game. It was a really, truly nice bike, which I thoroughly enjoyed and loved riding.
  5. My previous bike was a Raleigh. I bought one of the first RC6000's. Carbon fork, alu frame and 105 everything (9 speed). It was a really nice bike. I replaced it with a Scott CR1, full carbon frame, and upgraded to Campagnolo Record. Yes, I prefer the Scott, yes it's lighter. From a financial PoV, the move to the Scott was a dumb move. Great for bragging rights, but that is all. The South African Raleighs are great bikes. I expect willehond will be along in a minute with his contribution.
  6. Excellent advice! Really excellent advice if you want your gloves to get smelly and if you want to invite fungal infections into your life.
  7. Without modulation, brakes would be digital. All or nothing. Modulation is the ability to adjust the amount of braking. That means the ability to brake up to the point of lockup and then adjust very finely without locking up the braking wheel. There are lots of variables at work here: the terrain you are riding on, pad material, brake hydraulics and (most importantly) the wetware operating the brake. Usually, if there is sufficient braking power to be able to lock the brakes at will, modulation is a question of working around whatever brakes' capabilities are.
  8. Water Wetter exists! And it actually does what it claims to do...i.e., it makes water wetter! http://roosrule.com/images/Redline_waterwetter.jpg
  9. I think this may have been mentioned, but you may want to consider changing bar tape colour.
  10. Be that as it may, I am on the shiny, silvery browser and (until Admin waved the magic Admin wand) I was having the same prob that Edman reported.
  11. I've never heard of anybody cramping in training. What I worked out though is that you need to train for the same distance, and for your planned race intensity to avoid cramps. I've had cramps during races when I've trained hard (but with too short distances) and when I've trained without sufficient intensity (despite inter-galactic distances).
  12. And you need to understand that a tiny, tiny, tiny percentage of the hungry people are violent criminals. The sad truth though is that it does not take more than that very small percentage to do the damage. This is about violent crime, not a class war!
  13. I think that the Hub is safer than the Tree. For one thing, you can see how long somebody has been around. We do get a bad 'un every now and then, but the fact that this is a (fun and dysfunctional) community means that it's generally safe to trade with fellow Hubbers. Note - see use of word "generally" above!
  14. Very simple - explain that you will not be sending the goods until you have cleared funds in your account. Ask the buyer to pay by interweb trf with a notification from his bank to your email account. This is what I've done when I've sold stuff, and the buyers have always accepted it with no prob. I am an inveterate haggler. I can't help myself. But sometimes stuff is so cheap I just can't be bothered. I bought a pair of wheels a few months back for R800. Geez...how much cheaper could they be? No haggling. On the other hand, I've walked away from two Thule racks recently 'cause the seller wasn't prepared to accept my price. No quibbling could reflect that your prices are good; if you know your prices are cheeky, perhaps you do have a scammer.
  15. Fixed! Where've you been, Mampara?
  16. Well that's two minutes of my life I'll never get back.
  17. The aspiration is fine. It's showing the aspiration that is so wrong. Oh God...now the white MTB shoes are in two threads! Can we get a pic of a snake with its head chopped off in here for good measure? Oh, and while we're about it, put a PowerBand magical pixie dust bracelet on the snake.
  18. How the **** do you intend to stitch a new panel in your bum?
  19. This point acshly belongs in "Training & Nutrition". A white pant has been scientifically proven to reduce performance. In the Joostenberg race a few weeks back, riding in K bunch, I lost track of the number of burnt out people wearing a white pant we passed. (For clarity - they were each wearing their own white pant...it wasn't a whole bunch of people in one white pant. That would be silly.) Otherwise, with all respect to the OP, take your unwritten rules, write them down and shove them up your wazooo.
  20. Dude! Hubbing is a lot like cycling. It's not cool to show that you care about these things. MODS - Please zap 50 posts off ichnusa's post count as a lesson. And a further 50 if there are any complaints!
  21. What would you do for that? At a guess I'd say 3-5 with time off for good behaviour.
  22. Dude...two guys beat you. Haven't you already suffered enough? (Yes, I am very brave from behind a keyboard. In all seriousness, good luck and kudos to you if you go through with this. And well done on your bronze medal!)
  23. Depending on how busy they are, how fast you want the bike back and how much you've spent with the LBS, expect that the assembly of your bike will be on a commercial basis rather than a charitable one.
  24. Here's mine...my wish that is: http://shop.konaworld.com/sa/products.php?product=Major-One-%252d-2010 In 52cm please Santa!
  25. Do some of that bike servicing that you've been whingeing is too spendy.
