    Tour Divide

Looks like Alex Harris is out, has been stationary for way too long..................
  4. Sorry, mean't 1984................alzheimers kicking in
  5. I did the first one in 1983, extremely hot day (35-37 peak), had a terrible paddle as I first got into a kayak in January at Emmarentia dam. Must have been close to the last after the paddle but passed about 130 people on the ride. Had to have 3 bags of ringers after the race intravenously............
  6. Very good point, agree 100%.
  7. Read this...................... http://www.spectator.co.uk/life/status-anxiety/9197291/toby-young-death-race-2000/
  8. This is a very interesting article about riding in London, I must say that for me the experience in SA is very similar. http://www.spectator.co.uk/life/status-anxiety/9197291/toby-young-death-race-2000/
  9. The bicycle is easily one of the best inventions man has ever come up with. As a cheap, healthy, environmentally friendly and just fun way of transport it cannot be beaten. The more cyclists we have on our roads the safer it will become for all of us as long as we behave reasonably and at the same time vigorously defend our right to be respected as legitimate road users. It is an ongoing battle to get this respect an debate and media attention can only help to advance it. To this end, we should be participating in it. My 2 cents.
  10. Excellent Post!!
  11. I might be interested, can you provide a little more detail?

    Dear Motorist

    Excellent post!
  13. Get a life.
  14. I'm interested but I don't know what criteria (in terms of belief/religion) you would apply for someone going on the tour?
  15. Pack the whole thing into a piano and burn it down to ashes.
  16. Why not just plan a route between campsites and provide basic food at the site, riders carry their own equipment, split between 2 people the tent and basic cooking stuff isn't heavy?
  17. Washing an MTB is a mortal sin. It makes them break too.......................
  18. The whole point of having laws is to regulate society so that there are CONSEQUENCES from acting in ways which are detrimental to the society. On this basis, it is criminal that accidents where cyclists are killed are not followed up and investigated with the same vigour as any other fatal accident. All other factors around cyclist behaviour etc. etc. are simply irrelevant.
  19. If there's lightening around and it's still dry you shouldn't, a moving object generates charge and so is more likely to be struck.....................

    Base Camp 2013

How does one book for the tour?
  21. And if you hadn't noticed you would be another statistic. I must confess that the story didn't make me feel particularly good. I commute most working days and each time I get on my bike I wonder if it will be my last, not a major stressing but more of a nagging feeling in the back of my head. There need to be serious consequences for any motorists found guilty of reckless driving when it comes to cyclists, this is the only thing that will make me feel safer.
  22. I have a Trek road frame which is a few years old, it is made for a 1 inch steerer fork tube with the threaded headset, I have a 1 1/8th inch cyclo-cross fork which I would like to mount on the frame, can I do this and if so which headset do I buy?
  23. Very good article, unfortunately this is South Africa not America, so motorists killing cyclists generally have been getting away with very lenient or non-existent sentences.
  24. Here's mine.
  25. This is my dilemma, I have been going through this in my mind and am not convinced that this is the best option.............
