  2. How about appointing a CEO who has actual aviation background in conjunction with sound and ethical business management experience at executive level with the appropriate tertiary qualifications to the board, who is politics-neutral, and although being answerable the board (who also comprises of the required and proven skills and qualification) and government, is still allowed to operate without fear or prejudice.? Or is this just a pipe-dream? If SAA pulls this off, then Eskom / Transnet / SANRAL / Denel / Telkom et al to follow suit. Now is the time to wear your big-boy pants, Mr. Gordhan.
  3. Too late, that shipped sailed long ago. Now, about that popcorn I was going to go and make.....
  4. This is shocking. I pray the two gentlemen heal completely, and get back on the saddle when they are ready. As for the bus driver, I hope he gets justice served. With regards to his driving / what he should have done etc. I am of the opinion that it is a moot discussion. He broke the law. End van die prent. Also, most bus drivers are just glorified taxi drivers anyway. It seems unreasonable to expect better from a bus than a taxi. I was cycling in Melkbos a while back one morning while it was still dark. I have a bright red flashing light on the rear of my seat post, and an even brighter flashing light on my bars, but still I very nearly got taken out by the Van Riebeeck High's school bus. It too passed me with less than half a meter to spare, even though I was literally on the broken verge of tar beside the gravel, and flashing like a blooming Christmas tree. That morning I realized that I could justify it in any way I choose, but it would make no difference if the bus killed me, which it could easily have done.
  5. From the trail FB page, it would seem that some of the trails are rideable since Dec 01, with full access from the 12th of December. https://www.facebook.com/knysnatrails/videos/893262147741934/ It looks like a worthy destination for anyone who may find themselves in the area. Also I would guess that Rob could really use the support right about now.
  6. I just saw this. I am at a loss for words. So sad. Rest in Peace. https://inthebunch.co.za/2019/12/shock-as-tandem-cyclists-die-after-being-hit-by-a-taxi/
  7. Have you tried by using a VPN...
  8. Elon Musk being a Saffa boytjie, knows full well that he is not in the market of competing with Flippie en sy Hilux, oom Fanie en sy Ranger and Japie met sy Isuzu oppi' plaas. Here a bakkie is a work horse, not a show pony. I am still not buying in to the electric motor hype as yet, and I honestly don't see how that will ever take off in Africa. This continent is not geared up for 1st world hype yet, and likely won't ever be.
  9. When I look at this thing...all I see is
  10. Thanks for the feedback. I am sure that pride in your work is something to be taken seriously, and I for one am grateful for the work you guys, and your dad, did over the course of your careers. For sure the media hype will always be slanted towards selling papers, or in today's age, getting the clicks, notwithstanding the fact the "whole truth" is often times somewhat glossed over. I get that people will bash the 4 "new" planes, but then lemmings will go wherever they are led, and in this case it seems that the level of stoopid out there is at an all time high. At least I got to take a spin on one of the A340-600's. It is a powerful beast, that's for sure. I wouldn't mind a flip on the new A350 though.
  11. I am curious, and no need to respond of you feel it is unreasonable in me asking, but what is the mood like around the floor with the current issues faced by SAA / SAAT, and also considering these new planes? I realise they are cost saving measures, but I am somewhat surprised that the leasing and financing institutions who are driving this are going ahead with the deal, or is it a matter of the ship has already left the harbour, and there is no calling it back?
  12. Ai LWB, I hope you guys get sorted soon, and that this non-payment of salaries does not materialize.
  13. Are there any pics of this purported pallet-gap-thingamabob on Black Rhino? I was heading Conters way on Sunday when I noticed my rear brakes were shot on my commute there. I decided to err on the side of caution and give the trails a skip after discovering the lack of braking power combined with the sound of metal scraping against metal, and did a long loop on the tar instead.
  14. You know what they say about opinions. They're like orgasms. I am only interested in mine, and I don't care if you have one too. This is why we need an objective trail rating system. The problem is in that what seems to be objective according to IMBA is taken very subjectively by trail builders. What Saffa trail builders see as Double Diamond Black will be scoffed at for being maybe a High Blue, or Low Red in Whistler, BC, etc. When I watch Youtube vids of folks riding black lines in those parts of the world, my sphincter starts hyperventilating, but when I watch someone ride a black line in our neck of the woods, I always seem to think it's doable, apart from those suicide lines at Jonkers, which to my uneducated mind seems to be the closest anyone has gotten to a true IMBA Black line. But again, that's just my orgasm, sorry, opinion...
  15. Unrelated but still...I rode up Tiekie draai this morning. People drive like boxes. I can recall at least 3x BMW's passing cars at speed across solid lines. One caused such a commotion when passing a string of cars immediately beside me that I ended up plowing through the growth next to the road. This on my way to the trail head. I am of the opinion it's just not worth it riding on tar.
  16. I stumbled across this a while back. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5EdrV6einYY
  17. I also got my daughter's birth certificate at the hospital's Home Affairs office. I applied the day after her birth, and picked it up a week later. Painless. Total time in-office was less than 20 minutes over the 2 visits.
  18. Depends on the situation, i.e. how long will you wait for the cops, if they do show-up, how interested will they be in your plight, are you able to make your way to the cops etc.?
  19. My old man owns a farm. He got threatened by one of the farms-hands once. The bloke was planning on attacking my dad with a fence dropper post of all things. My dad managed to disarm the idiot and proceeded to break the spar over his body and head. It was a "green" spar, i.e. hard as nails. After the perpetrator was dissuaded from his activity due to being in severe anguish and unconscious, my dad phoned the cops. About an hour or so later the van pulls up, and the officer advises my dad to always ensure he is the first one to lay a charge in cases like this, as if the would be attacker laid the first charge, that would mean jail time for whomever put him in this condition. Basically, when you find yourself having to shoot / moer / defend, always make sure you make the first charge against the other person. The burden of legal defence now lies with them. {Edit} As a reward for the farm-hand's actions, he got booked into Valkenberg Psychiatric Hospital due to being severely mentally affected after his tirade, and getting the last of his common sense permanently bliksemed out of him.
  20. Yoh, how far is the truth removed from the crud we get dished by the news media... I read some articles where they were going on about stowaways, and even mentioning the last stowaway on Kenya Airways who managed to get dropped into some oke's yard on final approach to heathrow, with the guy's goods in the gear bay. Also, most of the news articles I picked up on this all linked this bloke to SAAT... Goes to show, fake news is a real thing. As long as the papers sell, or the ad-clicks tally up, who cares about facts. The real story does not sound newsworthy, so just jazz it up.
  21. https://nairobinews.nation.co.ke/news/kenya-airways-plane-forced-to-turn-back-to-johannesburg-over-stowaway
  22. Also, LWB... Rumour has it that a Kenya Airways B787 had to do an about turn back to ORTIA seeing someone from SAAT managed to find themselves on-board post take-off? So where where you going?
  23. Is it not perhaps the one that went "missing", you know...
  24. There are many floating over Central and South America, as well as some over the Caribbean. All at or above 53 000 MSL. Now Internet is really taking over the world.
