  1. Just came upon this about the Bloemendal sale saga. https://dailyinvestor.com/south-africa/122851/300-year-old-south-african-wine-farm-on-sale-for-r180-million/
  2. Don't forget your passport. And it is of vital importance to make sure you have your entry visa stamped inside for the duration of your stay. Welcome to the Republic of the Western Cape where the wind blows, the sun shines, the roads don't have holes and stuff works.
  3. I vaguely recall reading an offer was made during the auction. If memory serves the reserve was around 250 bar. I'm guessing the offers were well below that.
  4. Has it been sold?
  5. Okay, in hindsight my comment went too far, and I apologise for any offence it causes. Ek is jammer mense. You all worked hard getting where you are and have a good one. I won't defend myself. I said what I said. I just hope that Meerendal looks better than the trails on Contermans, and likely elsewhere did last year for weeks after the event.
  6. I was just simply disgusted by the retards riding the epic who discarded their gel sachets and other litter on the trails at Contermanskloof last year. At least this year that global dick measuring contest's prologue is confined to Meerendal, so maybe the organiser can go clean the mess up themselves, although I highly doubt it.
  7. Yep. It's not white though
  8. I'm still highly convinced that is the real problem. *Hat *coat * door
  9. Ah, the good 'ole Toyota Tampon driver, because, you know, every second dwis has one.
  10. GO-MX let a mate know they were selling what they had and couldn't get more.
  11. Nice. I heard a rumor that Etnies are leaving the mtb scene?
  12. Tygerberg has a unique membership criteria. Links between farms are strictly only accessible for members. Day pass riders may not ride between farms on the traverses, and each farm has its own day pass fee.
  13. Can you imagine the hefty fines that would generate, because those officers would probably be paid overtime which has to be covered in the revenue stream. In saying that, I can't say I would oppose such a move. If you want to get sh1tfaced and drive around at stupid o'clock, then you deserve what's coming your way.
  14. And now I'm going to chuck the cat among the pigeons. Pretty much every cycling event I have participated in has a beer garden for the finishers. How often does it happen that you reach the finish, and end up swilling a couple, or more, of the on-tap of choice, before making your way to the car for the drive home? This is more of a cultural change than we are likely willing to admit.
  15. So now the onus would be on the accused to prove that the result of the test was due to test kit precision variances. In the mean time, you have a cloud over your head, and also a weekend in police custody to deal with.
  16. So in Cape Town I've seen, and been stopped at, blood alcohol checks on Sunday afternoon on main roads leading to the suburban areas. Clearly a targeted scenario to measure blood alcohol levels of the people who have been out for lunch. Now, I'm not saying there is anything wrong with that, for definitely no one must drive while intoxicated. But it does come off as more of a drive to increase easy income and less one of actual policing. I agree this will be policed very subjectively.
  17. Minister of Transport, Barbara Creecy has tabled a motion the reduce the legal blood alcohol limit from 0.05 mg to zero. Reports I've read about it so far seems that parliament seems set on approving it and writing it in to law before Easter. The main issue won't be the fact that the limit is now zero, but how it gets policed.
  18. No story justifies subscribing to Propaganda24.
  19. Glad you had a good time on the local trails @Nuffy. Thank you for the feedback. It would have been great to ride with you, maybe next time. Jonkershoek is a special trail indeed and you can really have so much fun on that mountain.
  20. I have a SS kit. The reamer is fit snuggly in my crank and the other bit that holds the snotty is in the tool bag.
  21. No cyclists under the age of 12 permitted unless accompanied by an adult. No cyclists are permitted during hours of darkness. Cycling in groups is prohibited - single file only. Pedestrian movement between Lookout Point and Noordhoek Corner (km 28,6 and km 33,1) is prohibited at all times. All animals taken along the road must be leashed at all times. Weekdays (off-peak season) 07:00 – 08:00 & 16:30 – 18:00 Hours of darkness Weekends, Public Holidays & Peak Holiday Period (15 Dec - 5 Jan) 10:00 – 19:00 Hours of darkness This was interesting too https://www.chapmanspeakdrive.co.za/blog/battle-of-the-road-cyclists-vs-motorists-vs-pedestrians-on-chappies.html This bit just put a new spin on the motor vehicle passing the cyclists in that posted pic.
  22. That is a good memory to have. A cherished moment for sure.
  23. All of my 117 kilo's and both my 2.40" tyres have a tendency to disagree with your sentiment. From Houtbay side that hill is a breeze. From Noordhoek side it's a different kettle of fish. I don't know the exact speed I go, but I get passed by all the other riders whenever I attempt that hill.
  24. Currently 117, down from 121 a month ago. Up from 112 in April last year. I ride jumps ( well not as high as my mates because gravity, you see), road gaps, rock gardens, drop offs, and pretty much everything else. The only upgrade you need is a proper wheel set with wider rims (30mm inner diameter and 32 spokes). I can recommend Lyne AMP HD wheels. They are literally bombproof. Trust me. Also easy on the pocket. That is hands down the best upgrade a bigger rider can make. Don't fret weight on the bike. Losing weight on your body is cheaper and more impactful. Then just ride with your suspension properly set up, and finally regular servicing of bearings etc. Your bike will last forever. I've been doing this for 12 years now, and at my peak I weighed 128kg.
  25. not permitted if you don't work inside. Permit required.
