  1. Check that the rubber seal is in properly. Same thing happened to me. Take a small screwdriver and gently help seal into position as you push freehub into place. I used general purpose car grease.
  2. This guy is always in our thoughts and prayers. Wish him all the best with his recovery. This incident will stay in many riders minds as it can happen to anyone.
  3. Have always ridden bicycles. Raced for a few years in my teens. That was awesome. Everybody should try some track racing to seperate the men from the boys. I stopped riding in my teens when girls & partying became more interesting. Today I tell my wife that cycling keeps me sane and makes me a far more pleasant person to live with. The health benefits are great without too much strain on your body. Most of my friends are on various pills to keep them alive. I have a vitamen tablet from timt to time
  4. Cut your losses and find another mechanic. I have a small workshop & if I work like that I'll be out of business in no time. A good mechanic will diagnose the problem quickly.
  5. Never nice to hear stories like this. He'll be in my thoughts & prayers. I always try to ride knowing that I have a family to return to. This normally curtails any form of heroism on my part .
  6. Thanks for all the hard work guys, I want to get involved with giving something back to the trails. Having a dedicated day really helps me because I can plan ahead with the wife. Too short notice to help this weekend, I really hope to be there at the next maintenance day. Enjoy!
  7. I've heard that some pro's only use 3 bolts on their brake discs.

    My New Hero

Impressive! can't wait for my 4 month old daughter to be strong enough to sit in a baby seat.
  9. I have one and to date I am very happy with it. Was meant to be a frame that I could use till I could afford something else. My previous frame cracked and I didn't want to be without wheels. I find it quite stiff laterally but with some vertical compliance which makes it a very comfortable ride. For R850 I don't have anything negative to say about it. The paint quality is good, seems to be epoxy coated. The paint tends to chip rather than scratch but it's a mtb, doesn't bother me. I thoroughly enjoy riding my bike and have not thought of changing it. If cash is tight I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. Regards Kevin
  10. great deals. Just ordered the XT front derailler. Thanks Chris.
  11. Early morning ride, then vote.
  12. Take the seatpost out and check inside the seat tube. Found a crack on my bike that was't visible from the outside.
  13. I have had one for about 13 months. So far no problems at all. Handles everything I throw at it . Nice to be able to play with the air pressure, 30% sag on rough trails, 20% on smooth trails. Good buy and much cheaper than similar Fox & Rockshox models. Never needed any spares yet and always wipe shock down after a ride. Spraying some teflon based lube on stanchions before every ride helps to keep things nice & plush.
  14. Well done Evans Cycles! Hope this issue gets sorted out to everybody's satisfaction.
  15. Can't wait for the Epic prologue. Will be shouting for them. By time somebody local took the initiative to do a movie like this. Can't wait till the release.
  16. Also in OC. Did a 4:26 . I enjoyed the ride, stopped at a few waterpoints, hi-fived a couple of spectators and had a hard 40km/h time trial down Beach Road to get in under 4:30. Argus is the only road race I do every year so don,t think I'll have much chance of improving my seeding. I really hope all the out-of-towners had a good stay and a great race. Don't know when we'll see weather like this again!
  17. Welcome Sarge. We have fantastic cycling weather this week. It has been like this for the last 2 weeks. Get out nice and early and enjoy some great rides.
  18. At my local Woolies the security guard tells me not to bother locking my bike as he will look after it. There's a guard that stays a the entrance. Havn't tried any major shopping centres though. Think I'm going to build me a cheap commuter bike.
  19.
  20. I'm for taking action. These thugs can't get their way!
  21. We could get in touch with cycling clubs in Southern Suburbs, Cape Flats. Cyclists around here are a mixed bunch.
  22. We can't allow these thugs to drive people away from the mountain. I ride to the blockhouse every weekend as it is close to home and you don't need a lot of time to get a good workout. Will help with any group action decided upon.
  23. Nice bike. Although I love my hardtail I'm going to get a dualie soon. the body tells me so.
  24. Fabian Cancellara is a phenomenal talent. Previous generation favourite is Sean Kelly. Old school favourites are Jacques Anquetil and Fausto Coppi. This thread is reminding me to get some old cycle races on dvd.
