  1. Breaking news on a new doping technique Do you have feelings of inadequacy? Do you suffer from shyness? Do you sometimes wish you were more assertive? If you answered yes to any of these questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist about Cabernet Sauvignon. Cabernet Sauvignon is the safe, natural way to feel better and more confident about yourself and your actions. It can help ease you out of your shyness and let you tell the world that you're ready and willing to do just about anything. You will notice the benefits of Cabernet Sauvignon almost immediately and, with a regimen of regular doses, you can overcome any obstacles that prevent you from living the life you want to live. Shyness and awkwardness will be a thing of the past and you will discover many talents you never knew you had. Stop hiding and start living. Cabernet Sauvignon may not be right for everyone. Women who are pregnant or nursing should not use it. However, women who wouldn't mind nursing or becoming pregnant are encouraged to try it. Side effects may include: dizziness, nausea, vomiting, incarceration, loss of motor control, loss of clothing, loss of money, loss of virginity, delusions of grandeur, table dancing, headache, dehydration, dry mouth, and a desire to sing Karaoke and play all-night rounds of Strip Poker, Truth Or Dare, and Naked Twister. You will be made to think that you are a great cyclist...... use this in place of EPO WARNINGS: * The consumption of Cabernet Sauvignon may make you think you are whispering when you are not. * The consumption of Cabernet Sauvignon may cause you to tell your friends over and over again that you love them. * The consumption of Cabernet Sauvignon may cause you to think you can sing. * The consumption of Cabernet Sauvignon may create the illusion that you are tougher, smarter, faster and better looking than most people. Please feel free to share this important information with as many as you feel may benefit! Now. just imagine what you could achieve with a good Shiraz.=
  2. I am currently reading Tyler Hamilton's book "The Secret Race",read it,you will be horrified/mortified as to how much doping was done.
  3. I'm going on business trip to East London on Thursday and Friday this week and wanting to try and get a ride in on Thursday around 1630 and/or Friday morning around 0630. I will be staying in Bunkers Hill.Could anyone give me a possible route that I could follow for a 1 1 /2 to 2 hour ride from there please. Let's just hope the weather is ok
  4. I am currently reading Tyler Hamilton's book "The Secret Race".He leaves no doubt at all whether he and others like Lance were already doping a long time ago. He even mentions that Lance could probably pass a lie detector test as he has convinced himself that he is not guilty and did not cheat (probably because everyone else was also using EPO,Testosterone,Cortisone etc etc) Lance was always my hero but even I have to admit that he cheated.
  5. You might want to start with the Chairman of The Masters & Ladies cycling club,Dennis Ehlers. You can contact him on admin@masterspe.co.za
  6. I have had 2 spinal fusions (lower back) so can talk from experience. In my case it took me a long time to recover.I cannot run at all these days and even walking for more than 10 minutes or so absolutely kills me. I decided to eventually try cycling again and with the aid of very strong painkillers have done The Herald,Argus etc etc.Whilst it is great to be back on the bike (in fact I live for it),I simply cannot go at the speed that I was previously able to.As soon as there are hills to climb my back does not enjoy the extra pressure/effort.I would still not give up cycling for anything. My advice is not to go into surgery too lightly BUT if you have tried all measures, including a 2nd opinion, surgery might be the answer. Many people have a 100 pc success rate but don't kid yourself, there are many that continue to battle. I have suffered from chronic pain ever since my ops and finally am taking Lyrica which apparantly blocks the "message" that your nerve ends send to the brain. There is no doubt it has helped but certainly has not taken it completely away. You might not require a fusion,so heed your Neurosurgeon's advice, you cannot live in that pain forever. Good luck
  7. I am all for a "critical mass" ride and have previously stated so on this forum.I suggest you involve/contact the various clubs like Masters & Ladies,Fattracks,Wayne Pheiffer etc. A possible ride could be from the Pier,up Walmer Boulevard, turn right into William Moffat, turn left onto the N2,turn off at the Seaview offramp, turn left at Cows corner along Kragga Kamma, right into Circular drive, making your way to Buffelsfontein and all the way back to the pier. I think it would be important to include some of the roads that cyclists regularly use. Another possible ride could be from the pier up Heugh/Buffelsfontein to Seaview and back (maybe down to Schoenies and back along the coastal road) I am a Masters/Ladies committee member and am willing to assist and join the ride.
  8. Roving road blocks on a continual basis, not only over the Festive season.I also believe that cops should drive the routes that are more popular for cyclists at peak times, that is,early in the mornings during the week and week ends. I also think signs indicating "cyclists beware" should be put up at regular intervals along these routes. In the case of Port Elizabeth, there are not that many routes the cops would have to drive and be more visible anyway. Should the CSA and the cycling clubs not be taking this up with the relevant authorities !
  9. An absolute tragedy, condolences to his family. Is it not time that us cyclists in PE have a "critical mass" ride whereby we meet at a central point and time and take to the road ! This would hopefully raise awareness. I propose we get the cops to have more regular road blocks, not only "in season".
  10. Of course I will not boycott the sponsors,it was not them that took drugs etc.Livestrong has done enormous good,so how can one stop supporting them too. Maybe one day thre truth will come out why they targetted Lance and not all the other dopers
  11. Just watch out for the altitude,I did it last year and thought I was about to have a heart attack when we got to Witkoppen road.I soon realised it was the altitude but it knocked me badly. I doubt whether I will do it in a hurry again.
  12. I bought a Scott Scale Expert in carbon and absolutely love it
  13. I am considering buying a Brookes saddle which are hand crafted in the UK.Has anyone ever tried them as they are rather costly. I must say their service so far has been pathetic.I have sent them 2 emails asking for information without a reply and even phoned them (in England),asking to be put through to someone who could give me some advice on which saddle to purchase and was rudely told to check their site and buy one online. I have had 2 spinal fusions so always looking for something better for comfort and thought a genuine leather saddle could help.
  14. I enjoy the Tread magazine and have it delivered to my home. However, clearly someone else also enjoys it as I have not received 3 of the last 12 editions. I get the Ride magazine on Zinio but don't really enjoy it digitally.
  15. My wife and her team completed the race which is a FANTASTIC achievement. They took about 2 hours longer than they had hoped for but so what, they completed it. I think their highlight would simply be completing it and ensuring they helped each other to do so. The lowlight could be that they didn't quite do the time they expected. I was their support driver and whilst I got no sleep for the entire race,I enjoyed being there to help and cheer them on. I was amazed at how many actually had to withdraw,it will be interesting to see just how many did. Heartiest congrats to everyone who completed it,you have my respect. I was rather surprised to see the ambulance leaving the school in JBay at 0500 on Sunday morning.I hope there were other medical personnel there to assist with any possible issues. I must now get ready for the Sani2C with my wife in 2013.
  16. I cannot see the English winning this but they will surely have a full go as it doesn't make much difference if they lose 1 or 2 nil. My personal opinion is that we will win the match, the pitch has been very bowler friendly
  17. Just a note to wish all the mtb'ers doing the "Trans" this week end,all of the very best and hope you have a fantastic ride. The rain and wind should stay away but be careful of the cold weather. See you there
  18. Do not under estimate the amount of climbing you have to do in this race,it is tough.I hope the heat is not like it was last year.
  19. My wife and about 10 other mtb'ers did about 180 km's of the race this last week end.She says Bergplaas is much worse than she expected (and she is a good climber) and the Fangs are crazy steep. She also says that the profile of the first 100 km's or so shows quite a lot of downhill but don't be shocked/surprised by all the climbing that also needs to be done. There is still a lot of water around and whilst she didn't count, they crossed the river around 25 times, the deepest being almost waist deep. I think you should expect a very tough, cold and wet route. Thank goodness I am driving the back up vehicle.
  20. I did this race some years ago and managed the fastest average speed I have ever done ie 33km/hr.I wish I could average anywhere near that time these days-age and 2 spinal fusions does that to one.
  21. My partner and I have been successful with our entry-my first .We will certainly be somewhere near the back but just hope to finish
  22. A mate of mine who did the race this year has entered himself and myself (my first) for the Sani2C.He was asked to make payment within 24 hours which he did and the site confirmed the payment. We have not had any further communication from them, does confirmation of the payment mean we have been accepted and actually have an entry now!
  23. Phelps-close enough but not Le Clos enough.......... Chad you were brilliant
  24. Whilst a host of the PE mtb'ers will be in the Baviaans this week end, including my wife,I will be hoping the rain stops so I can get a ride in tomorrow and Sunday. I will also watch the Stormers beat the Sharks and go to the Homemakers Fair. I hope to catch up on some reading as well
  25. I simply love cycling, probably the main reasons are- pure enjoyment, fitness, sense of achievement, friends.I have also had 2 spinal fusions and cannot do any other sport any more,so cycling becomes even more important to me.
