  1. You probably won't have as many water crossings this year but it does get very cold,so be prepared
  2. A friend and I are looking to do a ride somewhere in and around Knysna tomorrow morning. We are not racing snakes and just want a pleasant fun mtb ride.I am doing the 50km Oyster festival ride in a few weeks, so a "part" of that would be great. Is anyone riding tomorrow that we could join in,ensuring it is a slowbee ride lol
  3. I have a few subscriptions but quite honestly I still like the real deal.I also have a Kindle but only buy books that I don't mind not having a hardcopy for my library. It is cheaper of course to go the paperless route.
  4. My wife & I are doing the Sani2C in May and are flying to Durban. We therefore need two bags to transport our 29 er's in.Is anyone selling one (or two),preferably one that you don't have to strip the whole bike to transport - we are looking for the type that you only take off the wheel. If anyone in the Port Elizabeth area is prepared to "lend/rent" us their's,it would be hugely appreciated The ASG SCICON for 29er's is the ideal bag I am told. Please pm or email me on selwyn.gill@gmail.com Thanks
  5. Absolutely devastated,what a great loss.Condolences to the family. R I P
  6. I agree, the new route is way too tough for the average cyclist. All that has been done is made it tougher for the pro's.It has never been an easy race but now it is going to chase a lot of potential riders away. I certainly won't be there this time around
  7. As far as I remember it starts at 0800 with a 40km route (very hectic),30km and 15km.Children will also be catered for,so bring them along with their bikes. You can bring and braai but they will be selling braai packs as well. I think it is going to be a great day.
  8. Just ordered the brand new Giant Anthem "Advanced" 29er mtb for the wife, hope to get it early next week. She is really going to be strong now & better get me up all those hills at the Sani2C in May
  9. 28/2...Steyn & Philander bowling well but a few 4's slipping through
  10. Unfortunately you won't get much for R5500,however,you will pick up a fairly decent 2nd hand 26er. I would prefer a 29er but you will get very low end specs. Good luck & enjoy
  11. I bought the Scott expert carbon dual suspension which cost around R29 000 at the time.I simply love it and can certainly recommend it.At the end of the day I think it is a personal choice & what suits your back pocket. You should possibly get to ride one or two before making a decision.
  12. I believe that taking these "supplements" should be legalised, then everyone can be on the same playing field. It will also mean that more education can be published on each drug ie at the moment I suspect many recreational athletes take some form of "supplement" but not taking the correct dosage (through ignorance).. Another thought I have, is just how "bad" are these drugs for one,I am sure many athletes use one drug or another and you never hear of anyone dying.Yes,there were a few in time gone by but I think that was probably from from overuse. It would be interesting to get someone like Tim Noakes on Supercycling to give an honest and open account on this subject. If you decide to use "something" it would then be your choice. It would be similar to choosing to ride a 29er and another a 27er OR buying an Uno or a 4x4 etc I guess this is very topical at the moment & everyone will have their own thoughts/ideas. Does anyone have a stronger pair of legs for me
  13. My wife & I have been given a coffee machine that requires beans and not pods.We do not enjoy very strong coffee,in fact something closer to Wimpy coffee is more our taste. Can anyone recommend which beans we should buy to suit our taste. Thanks
  14. Without reading this whole threat I can mention that Prof Noakes' theory is not suitable for everyone (according to him),it is mainly for diabetic's- he is one.
  15. I have entered the RideLondon 100 mile race in August 2013 and rather than transporting my own bike across the ocean, does anyone possibly know of any good bike hire places in London! Clearly I don't want a "Barclays" commuter type bike but a decent road bike. The race is on a lottery basis, so I only hear in February 2013 if I have a slot. I would appreciate any advice/comments.
  16. This looks great,my wife and I will join you for sure.It is a pity the ride in honour of the late Clem Morris is on Saturday morning as it overlaps with the Masters/Ladies race.
  17. The $/ZAR will not go to 10,0000 by year end, that you can put your money on lol.You will probably see a trading range of 8,40 to 9,20. This still makes offshore travel etc expensive whilst foreigners will have a cheap holiday. On the one hand the exporters love these levels but on the other, importers obviously cry.Our petrol price is therefore rather vulnerable to an increase again. In simple terms, due to the difference in interest rates between ourselves and most of our trading partners, the ZAR should weaken over a period of time. It is still good to have some money invested offshore.
  18. Breaking news on a new doping technique Do you have feelings of inadequacy? Do you suffer from shyness? Do you sometimes wish you were more assertive? If you answered yes to any of these questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist about Cabernet Sauvignon. Cabernet Sauvignon is the safe, natural way to feel better and more confident about yourself and your actions. It can help ease you out of your shyness and let you tell the world that you're ready and willing to do just about anything. You will notice the benefits of Cabernet Sauvignon almost immediately and, with a regimen of regular doses, you can overcome any obstacles that prevent you from living the life you want to live. Shyness and awkwardness will be a thing of the past and you will discover many talents you never knew you had. Stop hiding and start living. Cabernet Sauvignon may not be right for everyone. Women who are pregnant or nursing should not use it. However, women who wouldn't mind nursing or becoming pregnant are encouraged to try it. Side effects may include: dizziness, nausea, vomiting, incarceration, loss of motor control, loss of clothing, loss of money, loss of virginity, delusions of grandeur, table dancing, headache, dehydration, dry mouth, and a desire to sing Karaoke and play all-night rounds of Strip Poker, Truth Or Dare, and Naked Twister. You will be made to think that you are a great cyclist...... use this in place of EPO WARNINGS: * The consumption of Cabernet Sauvignon may make you think you are whispering when you are not. * The consumption of Cabernet Sauvignon may cause you to tell your friends over and over again that you love them. * The consumption of Cabernet Sauvignon may cause you to think you can sing. * The consumption of Cabernet Sauvignon may create the illusion that you are tougher, smarter, faster and better looking than most people. Please feel free to share this important information with as many as you feel may benefit! Now. just imagine what you could achieve with a good Shiraz.=
  19. I am currently reading Tyler Hamilton's book "The Secret Race",read it,you will be horrified/mortified as to how much doping was done.
  20. I'm going on business trip to East London on Thursday and Friday this week and wanting to try and get a ride in on Thursday around 1630 and/or Friday morning around 0630. I will be staying in Bunkers Hill.Could anyone give me a possible route that I could follow for a 1 1 /2 to 2 hour ride from there please. Let's just hope the weather is ok
  21. I am currently reading Tyler Hamilton's book "The Secret Race".He leaves no doubt at all whether he and others like Lance were already doping a long time ago. He even mentions that Lance could probably pass a lie detector test as he has convinced himself that he is not guilty and did not cheat (probably because everyone else was also using EPO,Testosterone,Cortisone etc etc) Lance was always my hero but even I have to admit that he cheated.
  22. You might want to start with the Chairman of The Masters & Ladies cycling club,Dennis Ehlers. You can contact him on admin@masterspe.co.za
  23. I have had 2 spinal fusions (lower back) so can talk from experience. In my case it took me a long time to recover.I cannot run at all these days and even walking for more than 10 minutes or so absolutely kills me. I decided to eventually try cycling again and with the aid of very strong painkillers have done The Herald,Argus etc etc.Whilst it is great to be back on the bike (in fact I live for it),I simply cannot go at the speed that I was previously able to.As soon as there are hills to climb my back does not enjoy the extra pressure/effort.I would still not give up cycling for anything. My advice is not to go into surgery too lightly BUT if you have tried all measures, including a 2nd opinion, surgery might be the answer. Many people have a 100 pc success rate but don't kid yourself, there are many that continue to battle. I have suffered from chronic pain ever since my ops and finally am taking Lyrica which apparantly blocks the "message" that your nerve ends send to the brain. There is no doubt it has helped but certainly has not taken it completely away. You might not require a fusion,so heed your Neurosurgeon's advice, you cannot live in that pain forever. Good luck
  24. I am all for a "critical mass" ride and have previously stated so on this forum.I suggest you involve/contact the various clubs like Masters & Ladies,Fattracks,Wayne Pheiffer etc. A possible ride could be from the Pier,up Walmer Boulevard, turn right into William Moffat, turn left onto the N2,turn off at the Seaview offramp, turn left at Cows corner along Kragga Kamma, right into Circular drive, making your way to Buffelsfontein and all the way back to the pier. I think it would be important to include some of the roads that cyclists regularly use. Another possible ride could be from the pier up Heugh/Buffelsfontein to Seaview and back (maybe down to Schoenies and back along the coastal road) I am a Masters/Ladies committee member and am willing to assist and join the ride.
