    Dual sus

when you notice 'bunches' being formed around you. like on boring bits like district roads, especially uphill.
  3. DID YOU NOT READ NANCY'S POST ABOUT NOT GETTING ANY HUGS AT TRANSBAVIAANS???
  4. hahaha you just didn't read the posts on the hub, stoffel, lots of people are preaching how much fun it is lights aren't the be-all and end-all ... you won't be first on the downhill rush with a cheaper setup (until you can afford the big lights) - but you'd be able to ride all the same.
  5. hahaha mr g i realised these last few weeks i'm a closet wiehgt weenie! i'm out of the closet now, however - it never bothered me, untill someone said 'R900 for every kg you're overweight' ... i've weight-weenie'd myself into being almost a kg underweight on check-in baggage (but shock-pump might have to travel with) and over 3 kgs of handluggage that can take extra. on the bike, a different shock and the trance's wheels made a kilo and a half difference ... and off the bike there's a LOT of opportunities to save weight. i can tell you that a salomon 20l bag is 200g lighter than a camelback 25 liter bag ... and my favourite fox shirt stays at home, cos it's 50g heavier than my second-favourite capestorm one. oh, yes, and the dettol sample-soap that i got in some or other goodie-bag is a few grams lighter than the protex-one from a different goodie-bag from another event - AND it's got moisurisers in 3 cheers for weight weenies!! cat-i2010-05-19 14:49:42
  6. when i got the trance, i wanted to cut the handlebars off. a friend suggested i ride with it for a few weeks, then cut it off. i much prefer the wide handlebars - you learn to (sometimes) miss trees on twisty tree-y tracks.
  7. except if you're flying somewhere, and bike + box + sleepingbag + biketools = 21 kgs, and you gonna fly three times with the bike, at R300 per kg per flight excess, and you were in the market for a lighter fork anyway. i don't get any excess luggage credits for weighing less than average
  8. XC = intensive racing, laps, technical, and HUGE on fun (and heart rate) single track not congested, cos few enough people have discovered it, and the person ahead of you is too fast to catch for me, the official definitions of what bikes for what types of riding are a bit wrong-way-around - i take the dual suspention (defined as all-mountain) to the xc events, cos i like the relaxed geometry on the tricky bits. and done plenty of marathins on the hardtail, which is defined as xc-bike cat-i2010-05-12 13:48:20
  9. how do you get away with 8 bikes? must have been at least 4 okes? and if you have a bike in both hands, where do you hold the gun?
  10. linden - i've always had excellent service from them, and they never try to sell me anything - they have referred me to another shop when the didn't had exactly what i wanted - AND after one of the guys lent me his own bike's brakes for a sabie experience cos mine wasn't back from a service in time, they'll have my loyalty (and credit card) for a loooong time cat-i2010-05-08 11:46:33
  11. Eks nou eers weer vir 'n rukkie genees..... My MTB weg gegee op die finish line.... ek sou ook as ek die helfte van my voorste shock verloor het ...
  12. posted on a mailinglist earlier today: Sadly today was an eventful day at the farm. Firstly we had the clubhouse broken into at 3 am and all of the develpment and warden bikes stolen. Major set back. Secondly we had another bike jacking, now the third on the farm and undoubtedly the same two scoundrels who have been active nearby the farm, one armed with a gun, the other a knife. We are working with the police and mapogo on apprehending these two thugs and hope to have good news for all of you on this in the forseeable future. Finally, it would appear that the hippo has not left the farm, this morning I saw its spoor leaving the fish eagle dam and going across rthe road and down the opposite bank. PLEASE be very cautious when riding in that area early in the morning. Regards Simon
  13. ... and if your funmeter on the rear shock don't show that you've used up almost all the travel on a particularly gnarly ride, then you're not using all the travel available
  14. about a month ago i also met up with 2 guys going the wrong way - one without a helmet, and other one's helmet tied to his backpack. wonder if there's a pattern here ... can't you read the directional signage cos you're not wearing a helmet, or are you not wearing a helmet cos you can't read?
  15. nikwax makes several products that look after waterproof stuff. I have teckwash (cleaning & maintaining) and tx.direct (reproofing) - have only used the reproofing on a tent, so i don't know if you'll keep the breathing abilities. go to a capestorm shop, or drifters, and ask their opinion.

    Rotors

how much would you save with 140 mm in stead of 160mm rotors? i need to go show you a place where you may need those front brakes ... eish ...
  17. oooh these are so pretty! got the pink derrailleur, shifters and redwin ... pinkwin, i guess. the pink rotors are on the way, crc don't have the pink hopes. was eyeing the purpletrator - the pink fork - but it's a jump forkie gail didn't have, nor did she know where to get pink seat post clamp and skewers - i know that token make - AND pink seat posts ooooh pins spokes sounds SO pretty - but the budget won't allow for that or the chris king hubs right now ... thx all!
  18. ooooh firewalker thx - will contact her tomorrow!!
  19. the pink derrailleur and shifter is fitted, but the bike needs more pink - a seat post clamp and skewers would do. i found some very pretty stuff from Token, but can't find any in South Africa. so here's the questions: - where i can get pink skewers and seat post clamp? mountain bike, and roughly the same pink than what sram describe as 'pinkslip pink'? - who else makes pink stuff? kcnc? hope?
