  1. they have their place, as long as the people riding them are honest with themselves and others that they had assistance. I see far to many perfectly able people riding them. If they stick with their factory installed speed limiters they should not pose to much of an issue from the middle of the field upwards.
  2. seems like that is Vukani's style. They were also chaotic in 947
  3. Interval 2s day sky was glowing this morning.
  4. A few months back at the start of my ride the rear was not changing as accurately as it used to, by mid ride I was struggling to change and about 2km from home I could not change at all. Thought it was the normal sticky shifter. Put bike on stand and did the usual cleaning out of gunk etc. but still I could not change gear. Started peeling back hoods and removing covers only to fund a frayed piece of cable sitting there. Cable snapped for some reason.
  5. The plan was to ride SBR today. But Thursday night got no sleep, Friday felt like crap. Thought a good night sleep would help, but no energy yesterday either, so decided I zone 1-2 ride would be better than SBR. the choices were to head south or head north, heading south would put me in the middle of Ride for Sight, so decided to head north again.
  6. stopped shifting ? Get in there with some Q20/WD40, give it a thorough soaking to clear out all the gunk. Has happened to me with older Shimano shifters. Search the web there are a few youtube vids on it
  7. there is an entire thread dedicated to them. My Mirage bibs are heading for 2 years old, get worn every ride. Beside the silicon studs coming off the legs early on in the ownership they have been great.
  8. no jokes, there is even a pic of me crossing the finish line right behind her. And I did thank her and apologize for not helping as we were going through seapoint
  9. excuse my ignorance, but would it not be better to just buy the right size spoke ? or am I missing something ?
  10. when you hit the hills, those slower riders stop where ever they want, they swerve all over the show, most dont have any race experience, so give them a wide birth. Dont shout at them it startles them. There are not many places though that you need to worry, Edinburg is the first, they will still be fresh here, but stick far right, calmly let them know "coming through on the right", you should break free of them after that. Next will be on the approach to and heading up smits winkel, pick a clean line and be prepared to move left and right. Chappies is more of a challenge, but if you hug the right hand cliff face you should be able to get through. Suikers you will have walkers everywhere and spectators coming in from the right, keep your wits about you. Fitness wise dont stress, the coastal air will give you 16% more power.
  11. I strated reading your post and thought to myself, "thats if you can sustain 32km/h" after being flat out for 92km, than I checked my speed over that section in October, 35.7. ok it did help that I was tucked in behind a lady with a pink tutu
  12. because pressure from the top to just move the metal. You look good to the OEM because you are moving metal but not making money.
  13. found it
  14. I wish, these days if you dont offer close to dealer cost price on a car the customer just shops somewhere else. And then they wonder why dealerships are closing their doors. You cant pay bills when there is zero profit.
  15. Correct, its is Recommended or Suggested and not prescribed. i.e. the manufacturer/importer suggests this is what you sell it for, the local reseller can either chose to discount it below that or make more money and sell above that. Look at car prices, what you see in the likes of car mag or on the manufacturers website is an RRP, but since most dealerships are not owned by the importer they can sell at whatever price they like, which is why the first question anyone asks when looking at a car is "how much discount"
  16. its funny how the mind works sometimes
  17. I recall a long long time ago there was a thread where the discussion turned to the rough estimate of your time for CTCT (I think it was either CTCT or 947) using your time around SBR. My google skills are lacking as I cant find it. Perhaps it was one of those threads that were purged with the recent upgrade. Any google ninjas out there that can assist ?
  18. depends on the length of those rides. 3 - 4 days a week I do a 27km route, zone 1 -2 it takes me just over 1 hour, flat out 54 min. I then do a long(ish) ride on a sunday of 2 - 3hours. All inclusive thats around 150km a week.
  19. ~150km a week is what I've been doing. did a 3h41 in October CTCT and aiming for a 3h30 this time around. Do as JBR and NickGM have suggested and you'll be just fine. Its an awesome route with plenty rest between the climbs, great scenery and vibes from spectators and competitors. Enjoy the ride.
  20. personally cant think of anything worse than buying someone else's used sports kit.
  21. most important thing to do if youre going in untrained
  22. remember when I posted a few hundred pages back that I need to get stronger on hills, JBRs time up Edinburg vs mine proves the point. He was a full 3 minutes quicker than me up there, and this is when my legs were still fresh, I dont even want to subject myself to analysing Chappies or suikers. Edit: Ok, from 0km to top of Smits I'm 15minutes slower, top of Smits to Finish I fall back another 40 minutes.
  23. my wife just bought a rather nice First Ascent jersey from cycle lab, i recall it being around R600
  24. Its what I was thinking too. I have 1 or 2 of their hand tools. My dad has a Dexter angle grinder that he bought after having good experience with their tools in Greece. So for the odd occasion that I use the thing I think it would be fine. I'm planning on redoing the shelving in my workshed and then adding some bike racking, I could get by with my aging Bosch electric screw driver, but an impact wrench would make life so much simpler and quicker
