  1. get a towbar extension that will push the towbar further out away from teh spare wheel
  2. already after coming through the first downhill bend and finding rocks and gravel in the road I was extra cautious yesterday, slowing right down to give plenty room to take evasive action through the bends
  3. after yesterday I want to go and see what I can do at my pace. I am concerned about safety though, there are parts around there where I have no cell signal, would hate to come off the bike and need assistance but cant get hold of anyone.
  4. do they still do the road race ?
  5. I was there today. roads are not in the best state, although no worse than normal public roads. But there are many places where gravel and rocks have washed into the road, not great when your hurtling through a bend at high speed and find it in your path. also way to many people going the wrong way around today.
  6. Thanks. there is something about this place, there are places where it looks like you should have a flat or gradual downhill but your speed and effort does not correlate, then you check garmin and it says your on like a 3 or 5% gradient. Messes with your head man.
  7. Cold and windy SBR.
  8. Dakar for sure If you think those guys are not fit then you're kidding yourself. Even behind the wheel of a car/truck it takes enormous amounts of fitness to drive like that for those periods of time
  9. Windy and Icy
  10. you still owe me a Whatsapp
  11. I rather enjoyed my coffee and breakfast at Pedal and Sprocket on Sunday
  12. my edge 130 is cheap, small and compact and not flashy enough to catch the eye of the "long fingered", it also has a range of sensors that I use. Plus if I remember from previous discussions on the hub, the frequency at which a head unit ping the satellite is more than a phone, thus giving slightly more accurate readings. Actually a mate of mine has a fitness watch (cant recall the brand) and whenever we ride together there are clear differences in things like elevation, I'm pretty sure this boils down to the frequency of the sat ping.
  13. you can do navigation on the 130. Its a bread crumb style so doesnt show you anything else but directions (i.e. there are no maps showing you the side streets, it only shows you the path you need to take) I use it often when I've plotted a new route to somewhere.
  14. I rode with a phone in my pocket doing the recording for years. Before Strava was even a thing. But I like having a visual indication of whats going on, and there is no way I'm strapping a cellphone to my bars.
  15. I'll try and find a pic of the one I had, was much nicer than that
  16. my biggest gripe with my 130 (not plus) is that it does not have a battery low warning, meaning it just turns itself off when it feels like it. For everything else it does what I need in a nice compact non flashy form factor.
  17. didnt watch the vid, but the way the article describe is its sounds like a normal day out on SA roads
  18. I see what you did there
  19. you'll then sit with the same problem we have in races where the tannie manning the start shoot now needs to know how to distinguish and normal bike from an e-bike. All that is going to do is create a headache for everyone as they will then stop every single bicycle to check it.
  20. agreed. I tried to get Volvo or Land Rover up here to get behind some cycling events but was always met with "our budget has been spent for the year" responses. The problem for the most part is that unless the marketing exec knows about the sport they are sponsoring, they are either not interested, or see the potential but put the money into the wrong places and therefore get little ROI.
  21. Rola dont only do Toyota, they have a number of brand under their umbrella
  22. strangely enough I carry tyre levers but no spare tube
  23. agreed, and dont buy ultra light racing tyres or cheap tubeless tyres for our roads. Plus there is always the option to just pop a tube in anyway.
  24. Wow, I used to use number 1 when I was younger. My dad would take me to the local co-op to buy it. where can you get it these days ? Also where can one get number 3 ?
