  1. he has plenty of space to run around, he has the entire yard all the way around the house. Its not a small yard either. He gets plenty exercise, his favourite game with the kids is to sprint around the house getting as close to them as possible as he runs past. my initial post might seem like I'm harsh or abusive to the dog, but that is just my current level of frustration coming though. I would not have asked for help on here if I was.
  2. I have the fastest domestic use gate motor on the market, its not fast enough. If he stayed in our street (we live in a cul-de-sac) it would not be such a big issue as I'm sure once he had sniffed and marked territory he would eventually come back, but he runs and we are one street away from one of the busiest roads in boksburg. Last year my wife phoned me crying, it was the first time he decided to bolt. She opened the gate to go fetch the kids from school and off he went, she followed him onto the main road where he proceeded to run through the traffic. How he never got hit before a woman on the opposite side decided to stop her car, get out and hold him we dont know.
  3. gates need to be opened to get cars/bikes/lawnmowers in and out. Sometimes, like saturday, buttons on remotes are pushed by accident.
  4. Thanks I'll google the videos The shock collar and the option of giving it away shows my level of frustration.
  5. I was hoping it was a syndicate depot, but from that article it looks like 1 incident.
  6. We have a border Collie that we adopted as a pup a few years back. Its a dog for the kids and the wife, so I left it to them to train. They never really got him to walk on a leash, so he never left the property. The great thing with that is you could leave the gate open and he would not step a foot outside. Then during lockdown I got the bright idea to teach him to walk on a leash and we then started taking him for walks. He now realised that there is a bigger world out there than just the property he is confined to, the result being that now when you open the gate he bolts out. One of the reasons we got him was for early warning security when someone enters the property, thus he has free access to run all the way around the house, and I dont really want to change that. So we are locking him in the courtyard when we need to open the gate. I've had enough of chasing him around the neighborhood, clearly I'm not the Alpha male I think I am because he just ignores me when I call him. So what suggestions for stopping him from running out? A quick google on electric shock collars puts them way out of my price range.
  7. yeah in our boating days the first thing you did when you got back to GP was run fresh water through the motor and make sure you wash off any salt water anywhere.
  8. Thanks, makes perfect sense actually
  9. slow down with the insults, it was a simple question. In this day and age is becomes cool/fashionable amongst those that think they are cool/fashionable to brag that you've had XYZ or done ABC. I was in no way downplaying the virus and certainly hope it never becomes cool/fashionable to have had it.
  10. I'm led to believe this is why things like the whoop band and oura ring are pretty good at early detection of covid
  11. So my first attempt was via the website, tried this morning via the app was able to whatsapp the link to them
  12. How soon before it becomes some sort of fashion/trend to have had "the 'vid"
  13. today I learnt there is a online snow weight calculator https://www.inchcalculator.com/snow-weight-calculator/
  14. and once you have a route mapped out how do you share it with others ? I mapped a route yesterday, clicked the share button and tried to share it with 2 of my strava friends. They never got it. Do they also have to be premium members for this to work ?
  15. wow, nice work. do you have a link to a company website you can post ?
  16. some of it could be down to just not knowing the routes. I've ridden at Rietvlei 3 or 4 times and I know not one of my ride had the same route even though I thought I was following the same markers. There are a few places where you're not sure where to go but if you look around there is a sign around a fork in the path or something. But by comparing my routes to others on Strava it appears I took a shortcut and left out an entire section of the trail. But that does not excuse rude behavior, especially if your actions caused someone to fall.
  17. Its a cabinet from the 70's, the cheaper the solution the better. Its a piece of furniture I did not want, but came from the mother in law. Both my wife and mother in law were convinced this thing was solid wood. Hahaha, the doors are a proper wood, everything else is laminated chipboard. I loled.
  18. Thanks for the suggestions, will try Gelmar and if I dont come right then Blum etc.
  19. will try Gerlmar,Leroy did not have, neither did builders
  20. I think this would be the right thread to ask. We have an old buffet cabinet thingy that we inherited. The one door used to hinge down with a bracket thingy-ma-bob to stop it at the 90deg mark. basically a drink cupboard with the door acting as a table. to many years of people putting to much pressure on that door pulling the screws out of the hinges has left the wood around the hinge area a total mess. I now want to put on a hinge system that sees the door staying parallel to the rest of the cabinet, but with the door lifting upwards. something like this A few questions. Will something like thing work with a door that fit inside the cabinet instead of sitting on the outside ? Where can i get these things ? tried a few commercial hardware stores in the are but they had a very limited range of hinges.
  21. I found that riding with my normal prescription glasses meant I was looking straight into the top frame, looking through the lenses meant straining my head. But my eyes are also not that bad that I need glasses whilst cycling (yet), although being able to see more details would help. On the drivers license thing, I renewed last year, the previous time I renewed I didnt use my glasses and passed the eye test ok, this time around I tried the same thng and just could not see what they were asking me to see, eventually had to put my glasses on.
  22. I think you over estimate the abilities of the average person. I know I often do and then am shocked when someone cant sort out the most basic of things.
  23. We landed up watching Wonder Woman 1984 yesterday. Really the only thing keeping me entertained was the looks of the lead actress, almost spot on for my preference on looks on a woman. The rest of the movie, yeah well no fine, how a movie like that still gets made in 2020 escapes me.
  24. we landed up watching the entire first season. Its not great, but was entertaining enough to sit though an episode a night.
