  1. I have experience all of their venues and routes since 1998, and for me the best for parking and getting in and out has been FNB. Other than it being on the ass end of town that is. Steyn city being the worst and Kyalami second worse
  2. I think their marketing team needs to do a little more research. It has finished inside kyalami before. and what was wrong with fnb stadium, i thought it was a great venue, both from an access point of view and route pov. Kyalami has crap access, even when it just cars, now add cars and bikes into the mix and it’s going to be a stuff up
  3. I opened a free account in order to get to use some discovery miles that I had accumulated. There was no other way to use the miles. I've not put any money into the account yet, as of thus far, around 3 months, it has not cost me anything.
  4. The lower running noise alone would tempt me to spend the extra, those cheap ones make a hell of a noise.
  5. my bad, I see its PPA that is celebrating 50
  6. I see next year is the 50th edition. HAVE to make a plan to ride
  7. I am the dishwasher in this house, so no go. but, wont the heat in the non human dishwasher cause issues with the shoes ?
  8. wrong answer, it calls for a new bike, and we all know you need new shoes when you get a new bike. 😂
  9. ideally yes, but yesterday was the first day of sun that we had since the shoes getting wet. It did help, that and the bicarb. They were much better when I brought them inside last night, will stick some more bicarb in them just now and get them out in the sun again.
  10. who still has newspapers in the house ?
  11. Saturday late afternoon I got caught in a monster storm near the end of my ride, the type where you cant see where you're going and the roads you're riding on are now rivers. At one point the road was so flooded the water was up to my BB. Now normally after a wet ride I'll hang the shoes on by the open door and the combo of wind and sun dries them out and they're good to go, except that we've had wet weather since the weekend, today has been the first proper dry day, this has meant that the shoes have stayed damp. I've sprinkled bicarb inside them, and they have been sitting in the sun all day, what other tricks have you guys got up your sleeves to get rid of the odour.
  12. if its the place I'm thinking of, I've seen pics and spoken to someone that visited there, very sad and eye opening to the things that happened.
  13. they've had the process automated for a long time, but I think you're right, they've probably gone with some new solution that totally threw its toys when it was fed non utopian images
  14. i dont see what the difference is this year compare to previous years, there have always been cables in the way and helmet tags not flat. sounds like poor excuses to me.
  15. I had similar on the bike a few weeks ago. Dark, raining and chilly. We stopped at a red light, all was clear so we proceeded to move off from complete stop. my problem, my glasses had fogged up a little because of the stop. As we moved off the filter arrow on the opposite side of the road turned green, motor bike from that side proceeded to make the turn and was on a path to directly hit me from the right. I did not see him until we were within 500mm of each other. 100% my fault, but it shows how easy these things happen in challenging conditions.
  16. I will be honest, I only learnt of this in the last year or 2, but then I never really did group rides. the water bottle thing is something I remember Andrew McClean mentioning way back in the late 90s early 00s in the tips section of one of the mags you used to get for either 947 or Argus.
  17. This is Cape Town. Very seldom is there no wind. I don’t normally linger at water points, but of the 21 CTCT I’ve done I’ve never seen snacks at them
  18. I've seen clips of similar MO (perps on scooter/motorised bike) doing all sorts of grabs, things like smash and grabs on cars, bag/cellphone snatching from pedestrians.
  19. I saw a report of someone dying during the event due to cardiac arrest. seems to happen most years. May he rest in peace.
  20. @ChrisF those pics giving me massive FOMO man
  21. there is something different about dropping back and riding slower than you'd normally ride, especially when you're fitter than those around you. You get to enjoy more and if you're so inclined, help other along the way. I did it a couple years back when it rained and it ranks as one of my most enjoyable CTCTs
  22. Same, i did no 21 last year, was looking forward to cruising the peninsula in my club 21 kit this year. but alas, for the first time since 1999 I've not been able to enter the event, should hopefully be back next year though.
  23. What I’ve seen with our group is that the guys will sit a comfortable effort on the flats, once they hit the inclines I can only think that their physical effort stays similar but the ebike ups its assistance, so speed then stays the same.
  24. We have similar in our groups, but the e-bikes that ride with us normally just need a reminder to back off on the hills. most of the time though we just grit our teeth, wipe the blood out of our eyes and keep pushing, makes us stronger
  25. Whilst I agree with you, it must be noted though, that up here in gauteng, the most motorists that are aggressive to cyclists appear to be from the very same economic background as the cyclists themselves.
