  1. Some HIIT this morning.
  2. Due north, in the southern hemisphere, has always been the optimum direction for winter warmth in homes. My parents property face a few deg NE, when the house was going to be built my dad insisted they angle it exactly north, hence is sits slightly skew on the property. This was more than 50 years ago.
  3. I imagine the above is some sort of central registry. Do we have such a system in SA ?
  4. never mind turning to look behind and still holding a straight line going forward. Add in poor eye sight into the mix meaning it takes a fraction longer to focus on the road behind.
  5. isnt the sea water out that side still polluted from that sewage leak ?
  6. And this is something that irritates the hell out of me. the install was out of desperation/need, most likely sacrifices were made or finance was taken out, as the losses associated with having no power out way the sacrifices made. Not a lot of middle class have 100-200k lying around to throw at solar. yet the thinking is you have the money, so a little extra won’t hurt. and this doesn’t just go for solar, many other things in life are the same.
  7. Yeah look, all I can tell you is that they are military fighter planes, i won’t pretend to know what is what.
  8. not just Alberton unfortunately.
  9. check the contract, with car finance there is no penalty for early settlement as long as a minimum of 6 payments have gone through. Interest on car finance is calculated daily, so settling early saves you. Also if you have a big chunk of cash, but not enough to settle, you can put it into the loan, as long as atleast 1 payment has gone off you can ask them to re-capitalise your loan thereby reducing your monthly installments.
  10. I guess this should be an @Frosty topic, but I know there are others on here that organise events. What are the rules regarding informing the areas / surrounding areas about your race route using the roads ? Reason I ask, the Johnson Crane Hire marathon will be coming straight passed our suburb on sunday. I've not seen any communication/sign boards etc. about this. To me its not a big deal, I know it happens every year, I've seen the little arrows etc. they've painted on the streets weeks ago, and I'm normally on the bike at the time, so I catch the front runners a bit and then a bit of the tail enders on the way home. But I know from being on the area whatsapp groups, plus hearing all the hooting at the intersections when I leave for my ride, that people get very upset about it.
  11. Does anyone know why there are military fighter planes going in and out of ORT the last couple of days ? Looks like 4 of them, they take off and then fly north, turn around head south and back again a couple of times. One of the four has SA flag colours painted underneath. I thought we sold all of ours to the US ?
  12. Sun is most definitely rising later these days. Pretty soon I’ll be riding in the dark again.
  13. back in the days of the OLLLLDDDD route (100km), Racetec shows my times for a few years being in the 2:50s, and that was most definitely not in the racing groups. But, the bunches were a good 30-40 riders big and they would drop me at around the 60km mark. If I recall there was a bit of a climb that happened then and my fitness could not match the pace, so would solo the last 40km. We would average massive speeds whilst still in the bunches. Oh to be young and brave again.
  14. why does the age of the bike matter ?
  15. only decided on sunday how we are getting down, still trying to arrange accommodation etc. at least flight will be on way, will hitch a ride back with my mate you staying in fish hoek again?
  16. hahaha, can do it with my eyes closed. I'm a creature of habit, plus, I know this route so well, so I know how long it will take me and can fit it in before work.
  17. That actually a damned clever idea. Think I might use this for my workshed.
  18. Tour de Joburg
  19. plus the cavity adds a bit on insulation to the outside
  20. Our regulations are there, just hardly ever enforced. (and that does not only apply to the building industry)
  21. The same but different
  22. I dont think the damp is only because of the air bricks. Modern building methods (shortcuts ?) and modern styling of houses is the other cause, in my opinion. Older houses, when plastered on the outside, the plaster did not go all the way to the ground, there was normally at least 1 bricks height exposed between the plaster and the ground.
  23. Before right to repair came in, you HAD to service your car at the manufacturer dealership or your warranty would be null and void. Even if you bought and used the branded parts. however. Buy a new gearbox for your car, it comes with x months warranty on the gearbox, provided the correct spec fluids are used. It does not have to be the branded stuff, as long as the fluids meet the correct specifications.
  24. which is strange, because many older houses use those steel framed windows that are always twisted and never seal so they already have ventilation, whilst newer homes tend to have aluminium windows which seal much much better.
