  1. not sure if you've looked at local flights lately ? but with the collapse of a number of airlines, those still in operation are charging prices that you would normally only see at absolute peaks for their normal flights.
  2. there you go again with the dont moan stuff. B.T.W. I've been an up country PPA member since 1998. In 1998 it helped me get a better start position as I was unseeded. Since then it has done nothing for me, but up until very recently I had to be a member just to enter CTCT.
  3. I havent watched the clip right now, but based on the image that pops up for the link is this not an old clip ? I recall seeing very similar a number of years back.
  4. Actually @ShebeenI take offence with your posts. Maybe the cost is justified. Maybe the costs would be higher if time etc. was not donated by some. But without having financials infront of us we are guessing. The insinuation is that whatever is left over from the costs then goes to charity, and it probably does. But are there any checks in place to make sure the service providers billing the race are not taking the p$$ with their pricing ? And if they're not could they not have done better because its for charity ? Like the cost of electricity, I can vote with my wallet and simply not pay it, but then I would not have electricity. I want electricity. The fact that I pay it does not mean I agree with the cost. And its not like they are having to limit race entries anymore like they were 10 years ago when everything would be sold out within the first hour. Push the price up enough and you'll chase enough people away. 947 is already boasting largest timed cycling event, where as just a year or 2 back it was still second largest behind CTCT. The sliding scale on entry fees though I do agree with, planning and logistics needs to be done and the earlier they have the numbers the better they can plan. Are we not allowed to voice our opinions anymore ? We know its not going to change the price, we will most like still enter.
  5. Dal rides around with a dedicated photographer
  6. my eldest is simply not interested, but my youngest will probably be keen. I've got 4 years to a possible tandem purchase.
  7. when you income has plummeted over the 23 year since you first did the ride than any increase is an issue. But this is one race on the calendar that is not just penciled in, it is written with permanent marker. So plans will be made.
  8. I enjoyed the wet this year. Was my first wet one. It does however mean I won’t try for a pb on the day, but I had loads of fun dropping a few groups back and pulling the train from the blue route to Smits winkel,
  9. So in a way I am privileged. I have friends that I bumbed off of to get down there for virtually nothing this year. We shared accommodation costs down there that through BikeHub generosity cost us a fraction of what the average joe would have paid. Since 1999 I have completed 18 of the events, that in itself is a privilege. much like we moan about load shedding and taxes and there is not much we can do about it, the same goes for the entry fee if we still want to do the race. moaning about entry fees will come up every year, moaning about people moaning about entry fees will also come up every year. brace yourself, because next on the list, in no particular order is * the goodie bag * the expo * the weather
  10. spoken like someone thats not on a tight budget. I'll find a way to enter, the same way I've found the funds to enter every year since 1999. Because I have a goal in place to do 21 before I'm 50. But that does not mean I need to be happy with the entry fee.
  11. getting a bit crazy. Add in traveling and accommodation costs to us upcountry folks and its making doing the last 4 to 21 very difficult.
  12. proof that cycling is the new golf, he just hit a birdy
  13. Eish man. Speedy recovery Ben
  14. its not off of @Titan Racing Bikes website but rather a bike shop
  15. start time?
  16. Thanks Gents. I remember now.
  17. so the current rear tyre is not liking all the little cuts etc. Even the superglue trick is not working. Near the end of sundays 100km ride I could feel the extra bounce coming from the rear meaning it had lost air. monday afternoon I superglued a cut that I thought was the cause, yesterday afternoon pumped it up to pressure and hung the bike back up. About an hour or so later went to check on it and it was completely flat again. 2 problems though. 1) Stock of 28mm seems to be non existent, and when there is the price is crazy. 2) Its been a couple of bad commission earning months in a row, disposable income is non existent. So I'm going to do 1 of 2 things a) put a tube in it b) asses the condition of the front tyre from the previous set and see if it is good enough to last me a little while. but in the mean time, if anyone knows of 28mm Cinturato's going for a decent price please point me in that direction. (on that note, has bikemob closed down ? their website seems to be non existent)
  18. I would never mount these just to the ceiling, they need to go into the rafters, no ceiling board will hold even a lightweight bike.
  19. but she didnt say anything about buying one next week, only not to buy one today.
  20. The pulley system that he is looking at does make it easier.
  21. if you're not going to hoist it up and down often then I think it will be fine.
  22. what does the tandem weigh ? I see this one has a weight limit of 20kg. I've been using similar ones up until recently, but with my road bike, I think it will struggle on the upper end of the weight limit.
  23. whats your sleep quality like on sunday night vs other nights ? other stresses on your body on sunday vs other days ? I've found that after a good nights sleep my HRV is much higher the next morning.
