  1. Thanks, check you DMs
  2. so bike addict have responded. No stock with supplier
  3. the 2 that I use both done have stock of 105, they do have ultegra, but at R900 more I'll keep looking for 105.
  4. 20t cog. I thought about looking for a replacement of just the 20t, I might have to go that route still. But with 14 500km on the cassette and 3 chains its probably only a matter of time before some of the others start to slip.
  5. They dont seem to show on their website. Think I'll pop them a mail anyway, maybe they still have one
  6. Installed new chain the other day. Only done 2 rides for a total of 55km. It appears that after 14 500km the cassette has reached a point of needing to be replaced. Currently only one cog slipping. Its Shimano 11 spd 11-32. Bike is running 105 groupset so I dont need to go higher spec than that. Point me to the best place to buy in SA please. Currently Cycle Lab have it the cheapest on their website.

Early 2000s, about 10 - 15km into the 947, my BB went from cluck cluck noises to stuck in one position. Climbed off the bike to inspect, somehow back pedaling free'd it. Not sure how but it stopped clucking too. Finished the race like that. BB bearing fell out in pieces when I took it apart.

  9. wrong. The customer is king, but the customer is not always right. Dont argue with the customer, but present them with the facts to back you, but also be open to being proven wrong.
  10. exactly this. Stuff ups happen. Its how they get sorted out that differentiate you from others and keep customers coming back.
  11. Not on bikehub. I advertised my bike on Facebook. Almost immediately a Wise Sambo with number 078 369 4648 whatsapped me. No questions about the bike, just is it available for pickup. when I told him cash only he seemed to get agitated and said if I want cash I must bring the bike to him. Told him "Thanks but no thanks I'll sell to someone else" to which he replies I'm trying to scam him selling air. So I told him simply "You want the bike you bring me cash. No cash no bike. And I dont deliver" Let see if he responds, but pretty sure its a scam.
  12. now why dont we have an Out of Context thread ? Lines like this would be golden there.
  13. Thanks, will check out what D’Arcs have. I used to use a set about 20 years back with interchangeable lenses. They are still kicking about somewhere in the house, but I don’t like interchangeable lenses so photochromatic is what I want
  14. Thread revival. My trusty Rudy Projects are falling apart. The nose piece is disintegrating and the lenses have seen better days (see what I did there). Some light searching suggests its not really worth trying to source the parts, plus I'm looking for a little more face coverage (but not as much as the current big screen TVs that are the rage right now). So, are rockbros with photochromatic lenses worth it, or double the budget and get something entry level from another manufacturer. And if the later then who ? I dont really want to spend more than R1200
  15. if its the glass and half brand, I was at a PnP the other day they were R33 a slab 🤔
  16. I've got an ex school mate that has a filling station. He recons had he not opened it many years ago it would not be viable to keep it open today, margins have become so small that he just about covers overheads these days. There is a filling station we use for work, consistently runs out of fuel the day before a price hike. My guess is that he holds back a certain amount and sells it at the new price the next day. Every business has their little tricks to try and maximise the little profit they make these days. Over reading pumps as far as I know would be alot harder to do as from what I understand they are closely audited.
  17. No Stats, but logic says if you have more of something around you're more likely to take notice of it. And right here in your first post you propose he stays off the road completely making it sound like he is taking his life into his hands just by being on the road All I am saying is that instead of advocating and absolute, make aware of the dangers but also make aware that they can also be mitigated to an extent.
  18. This kind of post gets under my skin. Yes the dangers are there. But we need more cyclists on the road not less. The more on the road the more drivers become aware. I've done many 10s of 1000s of km on the road without serious incident. You need to be aware that the dangers exist and mitigate as much as possible. It not an ideal situation but it can be done. Telling people to stay off the road is in my opinion the wrong approach. Educate people to the dangers and mitigations that can be taken rather.
  19. mine came with downtube shifters, I converted to STi's at a later stage (although I seem to recall it being much sooner that 2012). By 2012 I was riding the Scott I have advertised in classifieds, and thats a 2005 with STi's that I'm sure were factory fitted.
  20. no idea, i bought it used circa 2001

Well done to all who rode. Lots of talk about the right clothing, but there is also a rather large element of mental toughness that needs to be considered. Once the mind gets to a point of saying "no can do" the body follows very quickly. Its also a fine line between just pushing through teh comfort zone and heading down hill into a medically unsafe state, making the call to pull the plug cant be easy.

Before I bought long fingered cycling gloves I used to use my old water ski gloves, worked a treat. I just dont know where they disappeared to.
  23. I spent last week off the bike. From saturday I was congested, it never went below the neck but I could feel my body fighting it. HRV stats confirmed this. By wednesday I was feeling better and HRV stats were normalizing, but I stayed off the bike anyway as I was feeling a little more tired than normal. Saturday morning I did my usual 27km loop at an easy pace. I did not feel 100% but put it down to coming off of the weeks illness. But saturday afternoon I was exhausted and had a power nap on the couch. I was determined to ride yesterday, Epic ride weather was telling me that there would be a headwind out and a tailwind back. But I got out of bed feeling fatigued again, decided that I was in no condition to fight the wind. HRV stats once again show the body has been fighting something the last few days. So clearly the illness is still lingering in my body.
  24. Thanks for the input folks, I'll list it in the classifieds and see what offers I get.
  25. It is in decent nick, most of the abuse came from the previous owners teenage son. But since I got it I've maintained and looked after it. This bike served me well for many a Argus (was not CTCT when I did them on this bike) and 947. When I got the new bike this one was relegated to IDT duty. Oh. Also the cassette ratios are not off the shelf, biggest cog at the rear was changed to an even bigger one (cant recall the sizes now) at some stage.
