  1. There isn't actually such a thing as a Scandium frame. Its an Alu frame that contains 0.5% scandium and then the frame is handed over to the marketing department to make it lighter, stronger and tougher.
  2. I totally agree with you. Its the same with the hipster fixie scene. They took the concept of riding a track bike on the road and turned it into a fad. The problem with fads is that they come and go. Before you know there is a fad backlash and those hipster dorks move onto the next fad for fear of being branded uncool. So much for being unique and original.
  3. There is a local guy in Cape Town that does some really nice work. http://www.flywheelbikes.co.za
  4. Looking good Conrad. There's one serious problem with that bike though, its not sitting in my garage :-)
  5. Its a bike. Build it how you like and ride it how you like. Regardless of what people think of that tape today, there was a very brief period in the late 80's when we thought it was really cool :-)
  6. Nice!
  7. Love those. The other president is the limited edition LdV I believe(Leonardo Da Vinci).
  8. Here's my Merckx with new Ultra Torque cranks. It doesn't look too bad I don't think. I wouldn't mind upgrading this one to new Athena.:
  9. 100% acceptable in my opinion, especially if you want to ride it often. The problem with the old stuff is that its hard and expensive to maintain. Those white brake hoods on the Moser go for R1000 on eBay. Really ridiculous.
  10. Yes, they are Giro's, my favourite bar too. I've collected a few sets over the years. Cinelli are making them again I see.
  11. Let me post something British then: Hetchins Magnum Opus. Looks ancient but is actually the newest frame I own. Made in 1999. Equipped with full Dura Ace from the mid 80's, including stem and seatpost.
  12. I recently rebuilt my Moser with Campagnolo. A mix between Record and Croce D'Aune: Gianni Bugno was world champ on one of these in 91. It also won the Giro. The team used Dura Ace though, not Campag. No seat clamp. Seatpost has a quil, like a stem. Works really well. 8 Speed DT shifters. These can actually be upgraded to 10 speed with the TT shifter insert.
  13. That master is stunning. Not often you see an original immaculate paint job.
  14. Lower is better, always: http://slamthatstem.com/
  15. Lookin good morpheus.
  16. Like any big purchase, you do your research. Go spend a few days reading every China thread at the following forum, and you'll soon figure out who you can trust and who to steer clear of: http://forums.roadbikereview.com/bikes-frames-forks/
  17. I dig that ofmega crankset.
  18. Dont worry about stickers, they are available. I buy mine from this dude: http://www.cyclomondo.net/page5.htm That bike is a classic, glad to see you will be keeping it original. Nothing worse than seeing a classic Italian bike being turned into a hipster fixie.
  19. I think Wiggins deserves the win. I don't really like the guy, but there has been no one to challenge him apart from his own team mate.
  20. Yes, but with holes drilled in the blade. The lever in your picture is Nouvo Record, with the vertical name logo and non-drilled blades. Super Record look like this:
  21. The logo under the paint is a Mercian Cycles one. They still exist today and have always manufactured custom frames to order. So its a quality frame, although it doesn't have the desirability of an Italian, its probably just as well made. http://www.merciancycles.co.uk/history
  22. Victory was a lower end group, but still decent quality. You can still buy new old stock victory parts on ebay, but they are not cheap. Original new break lever hoods like those in the picture can set you back anything from R600 to R1000. I recently managed to import a couple of good quality repro hood sets for R 300 a set. The bar and stem also look like they're in good nick
  23. One problem with the crank is that its missing its self extracting crank bolt. Thats fine for the right crank arm but if the left one is missing then you'll have a problem getting the crank off because it is reverse threaded and you wil need a special crank extractor.
  24. Dont you have a pic of the rear derailleur?
