  1. Purchased some bike tools from Wiggle on the 3rd of Feb and EMS dropped them off yesterday at my house. 5 days isn't too shabby in my books.
  2. Took a walk down at Mouille Point the other day. Primi has a mobile kitchen just outside the lighthouse. They charged me R16 for a can of coke and R20 for a fresh juice. Almost had heart failure, told them to keep their beverages and walked off.
  3. Unless of course he makes a "donation", but maybe he should have thought of that earlier.
  4. Cool, I want one(laser cutter, not the tool).
  5. Colnago was never sold, and they are very open about which of their models are made in Taiwan and those that aren't. The Taiwanese models are made for Colnago by Giant and are not seen as cheaper models. In fact, the prices of the top Taiwanese frames are the same as the frames made in Italy.
  6. Cripes, sad to think that just the frame and fork is worth more than my car.
  7. Cool, you got free stuff for complaining. I'm going to place an order now and then kick off a complaint thread straight after.
  8. That's awesome news, I know how hard he's been training, really glad for him.
  9. How has the uprising and change of government in Tunisia affected production?
  10. Time frames are made in France. There are still a few smaller Italian brands that still make bikes in Italy.
  11. What really peeves me about supporting local is they supply only a small percentage of parts that are available overseas. If I need a 9 speed chainring or an 8 speed Campag cassette, then i can get it at CRC. Over here the LBS is going to try and tell you to upgrade to 10 speed because he cant supply you what you want. So for me its way more than just pricing, and until the "local" industries actually "get it", then they will forever be doomed. There is a good book called "The Long Tail", and it explains exactly why the likes of Amazon and CRC are so successful.
  12. I'm thinking the LBS and Shimano are looking to make a quick buck. They'll probably also tell you that you'll void your warranty by using a ten speed crank on a 9 speed drivetrain.
  13. And i'm with you on 9 and 10 speed chain width, the differences are very small. Regarding the 8 speed DA, I also thought it would work until I spent a few frustrating hours trying to get my rear der working with ultegra shifters. Then I read about it on Sheldon Browns site where he stated that the 7400 series rear derailleur is only compatible with 7400 series shifters. Like I said, its something to do with the geometry of the derailleur. You are right about the rest of Shimano though, you can mix and match any derailleur with any shifter. Having said that, apparently the new 10 speed MTB derailleur's don't work with 9 speed shifters. This is just what I've read on other forums, haven't got any personal experience with this. I have also been unsuccessful shifting Campagnolo derailleur's with Shimano shifters, although one combination I know works is using Campagnolo 10 speed shifters to shift sram 10 speed road derailleurs. Heres a link to Sheldons site about compatability: http://www.sheldonbrown.com/speeds.html And the link to his Dura Ace page: http://www.sheldonbrown.com/dura-ace.html Its a bit out of date because Sheldon is no longer around.
  14. Why don't you okes get a room.
  15. Duh, my apologies oysterkite, I meant Sram 1:1 is different, not 2:1 which is the Shimano standard.
  16. In the states you can buy automotive 2K in rattle cans, pity its not available in SA.
  17. 10 speed front derailleurs are actually narrower than 9 and 8 speed, so an 8 speed chain will have more rub with a 10 speed derailleur, but it will still work. You are totally wrong about rear derailleurs though. For instance, an 8 speed dura ace rear derailleur will ONLY work with 8 speed Dura Ace shifters. Also, 11 Speed campag rear derailleurs dont work all that well with 10 speed shifters. Correction, apparently they do work. But still its not a blanket statement, you have to try it for yourself. For instance, Sram 1:1 derailleurs look just like any other derailleur but shift twice the distance for the same amount of cable pull as a Shimano derailleur.
  18. Found an awesome site, some stunning bikes on display: http://www.speedbicycles.ch/start.php
  19. You're brave. I wouldn't venture much further past Voortrekker road, some dodgy neighbourhoods between there and the airport.
  20. This shouldn't be the case. The 8 speed cassette can actually fit on a later campag freehub. The problem is that the ten speed freehub has deeper indentations than the 8 speed one, and according to those in the know, the 8 speed cassette chews up the 10 speed freehub. I was very tempted at one stage to try it out but decided against it.
  21. The car with the website name on the bonnet is the alleged car. From the video you can't see who is driving the car and neither can you identify the car. If this guy does get prosecuted on that evidence alone then there is something wrong with our justice system. They need more evidence, like witnesses or a confession.
  22. Very very nice. That is a 1997 GAN team frame(or the colour at least): Go check out these pics of the 97 GAN team: http://www.cyclingarchives.com/beeldfiche.php?beeldid=11991 http://www.hvcf.com.au/Henk%20Images/hv_gan_2.JPG
  23. According to the Campagnolo website, if you buy Khamsin wheels with the Shimano freehub/body, then you will be able to use an 8 speed Shimano cassette. You can download the Khamsin technical doc where it states the Khamsins are compatable with the following: 5.3 - 8S, 9S, 10S SPROCKETS FROM SHIMANO INC. and SPROCKETS FROM SRAM CORPORATION (on the Campagnolo® freewheel body for Shimano Inc. 8/9/10s sprockets and Sram OG 1070 - OG 1090 sprockets) Link to the doc: http://www.campagnolo.com/repository/documenti/en/KHAMSIN.pdf
  24. If the Khamsins have a Shimano freebody then an 8 speed cassette will work. Almost all Shimano hubs are 8/9/10 speed compatable, except for a small generation of Shimano 7800 hubs that were 10 speed only. For Campagnolo, you obviously need a campag freebody, but the rule is that 9/10/11 speed cassettes work on later generation hubs(post 98/99), and 8 speed cassettes need their own generation of hub.
  25. No, you should rather just mind your own business...
