  1. Fantastic bike. I also have one but mine is really flexy. I can change gears using frame flex alone :-)
  2. Thanks. My bike is a reproduction version, made in 1999, so the stays are purely cosmetic. The story the Hetchins brothers sold the public in the 50's and 60's was that the stays made for a much stiffer frame for sprinting. I read somewhere that the frames were indeed stiffer, but more likely the reason being that they used thicker walled tubes for the stays and not because of the bending. Awesome Victoria by the way, nothing quite like a bare metal titanium frame. The noisy campy wheel can be silensed if you want. A tiny amount of greese on the pawls will do the trick, but carefull not to use too much.
  3. I can still see your bike with my eyes closed.
  4. Paletti Meteor, what a beaut.
  5. Cool vid. Guy who posted that must be a yank though because I can only count 8 riders.
  6. Thanks. Excuse my daughters toy knife under the couch. Hope she hasn't been playing "Dexter Dexter" again.
  7. Heres my Hetchins Magnum Opus. Full 7400 Dura Ace. Still need to fit the pedals.
  8. So in that case, please don't be offended if I refer to you as "That idiot on the hub". I'm just stating it as I see it, thus giving more information so others can more easily identify you,
  9. Tell me how, by any standards on this doomed planet of ours, is this following sentence not racist? "especially with a black worker in scrappy jeans and t-shirt riding it."
  10. Fixer, that Bridgestone tugs at my strings. I had an MB2 in 89, and the Zip i'd only ever seen in magazines. It is beautiful.
  11. I've bought a few things from TotalCycling. Their prices are very good but i've always had niggly issues with their service. Their site isn't always up to date and they can take forever to get back to you. If you've got a bit of patience then they're a good option, otherwise stick to CRC.
  12. Ja, we've met before. I'm not worried, at only 100kg's i'm nimble and quick. He has to catch me first. :-)
  13. Really nice. That frame looks mint. Is it 7 or 8 speed?
  14. I'm reporting this post, you just promoted theft on a public forum!
  15. Oh really. It must be awesome being white trash nowadays. You can steel what you want and no one will stop you because you automatically pass the the stereotype test for non thieves. The poor black oke who has saved for a couple of years to buy that cool bike he saw at cash crusaders is automatically deemed a thief.
  16. We've got some trigger happy newbie mods. Threads are disappearing as I type this sentence.
  17. That is a really dangerous road to be on. Even in a car I get nervous going round there, never mind on a bike. Anyway, glad the kid is OK.
  18. I suppose you end up paying R250 for the problem it solves, and not for the actual sum of its parts. I think its a cool idea, but nothing that my current spacer kit can't solve, especially if you have one with 1mm spacers.
  19. I see the following causing some confusion with officials: "All Veteran age groups riding the same distance will start together unless a specific 5 year group has more than 100 entrants or the total entrants for that distance exceeds 200." "Right guys, theres less than 100 of you, lets join groups". "Um, oh crap, theres 220 of you now, lets split up again." "Oh dear, we're back to 90, lets quickly join up again" "O f*k, 220 again, I think we should try and split up again" "Ag nee man, you okes are messing with me........."
  20. The old fogeys used to spend a few weeks on fixed gears with low gearing in the pre season to get some leg speed and perfect their pedal stroke. Only then would they start doing interval training with the heavier gears.
  21. Flippen nice, awesome ride!
  22. I almost rear ended a couple of cyclists a few days ago going up Hendrik Verwoerd from Plattekloof. The sun was directly in my eyes and I literally only saw them when I was a few meters behind them. They were riding two abreast with the one helping the other get up the hill with his hand on her back. I had to swerve to miss the guy and I couldn't help thinking that someone behind me would end up taking them out. Its something you don't realise when on the bike but sunrise and sunset are probably the most dangerous times to be cycling because you are just not visible in certain conditions regardless of what lights you have on the back.
  23. I'm using an XT crank, but bought a stainless steel chainring from Kiwi instead of using the XT's middle ring.
  24. Awesome point, but I fear you may have just started(caused) the fiercest thread the hub has ever seen.
  25. No, you didn't read my post, you belong to that group of people where it wasn't the tyres that were defective. Johan didn't say that every single wobbly tyre is caused by a defective tyre, he said probably 90%, in his opinion.
